Discover how animation changes between cinematic storytelling and interactive gameplay in this immersive, hands-on workshop. You’ll learn how to bring creatures to life across both film and game pipelines, from expressive cinematic performances to snappy, responsive gameplay actions.
🎮 WHAT TO EXPECT?
Explore the anatomy of a shot, the mechanics of movement, and the art of creating believable character and emotion. We’ll break down quadruped and bipedal locomotion, study creature behavior and performance, and design a gameplay attack animation that feels dynamic and readable.
By the end, you’ll have started two short pieces: one cinematic, one gameplay-focused, and a deeper understanding of how to adapt timing, posing, and storytelling across mediums.
🎮 FOR WHO?
Perfect for animation students and junior professionals ready to level up their craft and master the art of creature animation for both film and games. No prior experience is required, though basic entry-level skills are helpful. You’ll also be asked to plan and sketch out their animations on paper or digitally (e.g., in Notepad).

We lost a family member yesterday… what else is there to say? Itl take some time for us to process, Kiwi became part of our family way back when we were just in L.A. we got her through a colleague at Dreamworks for Annika who was just 5 at the time. Kiwi travelled with us through the changes of the animation industry and various countries and cities after… Kiwi didn’t enjoy change or traveling by car and airplane.. but always embraced it once it had happened. She helped Annika adjust and have a constant.. a friend… a part of our journey as a family.. she will be missed ❤️
Ive been lucky to be able to animate on very cool and famous characters that ive loved over the last 10 plus years , but watching SpongeBob for 22-23 years? and then given a chance to animate him and Gary for this wacky short.. really awesome 👏 thanks @adampaloian@olovburman and all the @pinreelinc crew.
