Imagine Jesus Christ was born in the great Benin Empire! Or from a kingdom in the Niger Delta! Surrounded by all the drama and imperfect beauty that surrounded that era.
We introduce you to Play Network Studios and Mondjila Studios’ latest cinematic thought experiment, a reimagination of the story of Mary and Joseph as a mythic story of betrayal and devotion set within a pre colonial Nigerian world.
The story is deeply human, exploring what it would really mean for an ordinary couple to carry
an extraordinary truth into a world that is beautifully flawed and in need of grace.
At the center of our story are two people whose lives are turned upside down by a pregnancy that cannot be explained. As whispers and rumours turn into fear,
accusations, violent obsession, rituals and even murder, the man is faced with an impossible choice: walk away from what he cannot understand or stand by a truth
that could cost him everything.
With @sneezemankind set to direct, @rogers.ofime producing and a screenplay by Olympia Okonmah and Lucas Tobin-Campbell, Silent Night is envisioned as a cinematic parable about sacrifice and the courage to say “yes” when the path ahead makes no sense.
The film uses visual language, cultural backdrops of ancient Nigeria to explore faith, courage, hope and responsibilty. The film blends romance, spirituality, emotional grit and a sense of hope into a story that feels relevant in today’s world.
This is a film about ordinary people stepping into extraordinary purpose as they choose faith over fear.
Silent Night, produced by Play Network Studios and Mondjila Studios, is ambitious and definitely a first of its kind, solidifying the both companies’ commitment to telling stories that resonate beyond time and borders.
Sometimes, the most radical thing you can do is believe! @playnetworkstudios@playnetworkafr
