In April 2007, Brooklyn lost a Gem. After 66 years of business, Empire Roller Rink was forced to close due to rising crime rates and rent. Trust me when I tell you, it was heartbreaking. With the installation of a complex sound system, Empire was the Birthplace of Roller Disco. Prior to that, skaters skated to live music.
Fast forward to present day, Brooklyn has a new gem @xanadu.nyc . On Juneteenth 2025, we celebrated their one year anniversary by producing an experience that blended the legacy and future of Black culture perfectly. We skated to a DJ, we skated to a Band, we danced to a DJ, we danced to a Band. All while uplifting the vibrant voices of @thefcknartist@maiyathedonn and @mayorcapellagrey , whose music we trust to leave a lasting impression on our culture.
I truly believe the epitome of Black Joy AND excellence was experienced this night. THANK YOU to the entire @intertwined_productions family. This was yet another dream come true.
