This workshop challenges deficit thinking projected onto Black students and provides a collective space for participants to build confidence in self-advocacy as well as learn about resources available.

This workshop explores how school discipline, policing, and zero-tolerance policies disproportionately impact Black girls and gender-nonconforming Black youth. Participants will learn how school disciplinary systems can lead to criminalization, how anti-Black racism and gender bias operate in school spaces, and what alternatives exist to punitive discipline. The session will include discussion, real-life examples, and strategies youth can use to advocate for safer and more supportive school environments.
