Over-compressed mid-rangey stereo guitars. The video probably doesn't accurately illustrate just how loud and piercing the noise is, but the cutterhead is around 30 cm away from my right ear, hence me having a plug in it for the past 12 hours. Sheesh. Cutting a 23 minute album side using a 'VR' with fixed groove pitch & depth is absolutely *not* to be recommended. I got it to fit at a reasonable level (peaking around -2dB) but I needed to employ sledgehammer-levels of groove excursion (mono level) and width (stereo) limiting to achieve it. Trust me, sticking to 18 minutes or less per side will make an LP sound loads better. #lathecutrecords #lathecutvinyl #toolongbyhalf

I don't keep track of how many discs I've cut over the years, but I've just gathered up the dead label sheets from the last month. Generally 6 labels per sheet, so 3 discs worth per sheet, and there are around 350 sheets in the pile, so that's... well, quite a lot. Demand for my work has gone absolutely stratospheric recently, so I'm planning some long-overdue changes to the ordering process which hopefully will benefit everybody. I finally finished an enormous run of LPs a couple of days ago, so I can finally chip away properly at the even more enormous queue. 55 copies of 10" aceness completed for the legendary Twisted Nerve label, probably out next week. 13 mins per side, so it needed some groove pitch fiddles to cut at the sort of level I prefer, but I thoroughly enjoyed the solid 24 hours I spent twiddling knobs and listening for faults.
