Plasmo-Desma 2023 -Video excerpt of my degree show The expanded body - Experiments in augmented sensory experience. Plasmo-Desma explores the interdependence between living organisms and the delicate ecological balance that enables their existence. It does not approach this relationship with melancholy or as a burden; on the contrary, it considers the awareness of this interaction as a source of joy and seeks to comunicate it. With the help of code, sensors and motors, I create a human-plant hybrid. This human-plant hybrid is called a Plasmodesma. Its blood, or more specifically, its movement within the body, provides the information to move the leaf apendages/extensions. The intention is to give visual and aural form to the constant invisible processes that keep us alive. One of the inspirations for this presentation is Madeline Schwartzman's research in the field of augmented sensory experience. In her book "See Yourself Sensing," she explores works that reshape the way we perceive the body and sensory experience. The name of the hybrid (plasmodesma) comes from the microscopic channels that allow communication and exchange of nutrients between cells. It is the missing piece to required for me to become a real hybrid body. it aslo embodies natures propencity for union. Plasmodesma is a fictitious symbiotic relationship that arises from the joy of knowing that I am undeniably interdependent with every other living being. We are thrilled to announce & present the prototype of the collaborative VR game 𝘍𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘦𝘣 in the upcoming @onassis.onx exhibition 𝘙𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘺 part of the Onassis ONX / AiR Open Days 2024 realized in the framework of the @european_media_art_platform residency program. 𝘍𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘦𝘣 is a VR walking simulator game by @plasmo_desma & @babakahteshamipour selected to be developed as part of the Onassis ONX Proof-of-Concept (PoC). It explores the diversity of the Web, its subcultures & esoterica, through 90s & early 00s internet native aesthetics versus service-oriented platform capitalism, casual surfing, mythmaking & the online extremities that this polarity spawns. We are happy to present ‘Artists Feature’ by Mareike Dobewall & Artemis Sartzetakis Opening at November 13, 8-10pm @B93 The exhibition showcases two distinct art explorations, each at a different stage of development. Mareike Dobewall (’84, SE/DE) presents her completed works, which delve into the interplay between aural and visual imagination, inviting viewers into multisensory experiences through mixed media. Meanwhile, Artemis Sartzetakis (’99, GR) shares a work in progress that will reach completion at the Overkill Festival and Tetem. In this project, Artemis blends surrealist graphics and responsive sound within a game format that reimagines climate activism, challenging conventional discourse by making political action both engaging and accessible. Today Artemis arrived at ARE. Artemis Sartzetaki (’99 GR) is selected for the ARE - The Overkill Festival artist-in-residence. We are super excited about this cooperation and we are looking forward to seeing how the project will develop over the next three months! Artemis will be working on Sender Ultra™. Sender Ultra™ is a climate activist correspondence sender disguised as a flash game. Using a gamepad joystick combo, surrealist graphics, and responsive sound design the player can curate and send a signed email petitioning MEPs to support green legislation.  Artemis Sartzetakis is an Athens-based multidisciplinary artist working predominantly with performance, costume design, 3d renders and game design. They create work inspired by the complex and often co-emergent relationships that determine the natural world, with an intense need for climate action.
