Throwback Thursday and story time….
One of my favorite shots we’ve ever done. When Plasma
@plasmanyc called and said she wanted to do a shot for shot of Don’t Rain On My Parade I immediately was like how?
So the quick search began for a 1930s tugboat. I posted my usual Instagram story “who knows…” and my dear friend
@laurieannsheppard sends me a dm saying she just used this tugboat on Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She said contact the South Street Seaport Museum
@seaportmuseum . All the cards started to fall into place. But the caveat, it was October, and we had 3 days before the the tugboat was put up for the winter months which would have made this ending impossible since we had to drop the video in January of 2024.
So I said not to worry. I can make this happen. I call my right hand Jake
@primmecreative and say to get the shot are you comfortable hanging out of a helicopter??? (🤣🤣). Drones are not allowed so I was like this is the only way. Maybe not the best idea hahah. Thankfully we both thought we could achieve this shot safely by renting a speedboat and staying in line with the tugboat we could get the scale we needed.
Day of the shoot, it’s super early, but the water is so choppy. We hit a wave on our way out to the Statue of Liberty and all the equipment almost falls into the water. It was saved within an inch of its life thanks to
@nicolasfiery . I’m directing our captain Peter to speed up, slow down, starboard side Peter…feeling like a true seaman. 🤣🤣 I have Plasma put an earbud in her right ear for playback and I have
@bitchcraft on the phone with me so I can say playback, camera speeding, and action!! And about three hours at sea - we got the shot!!!
And fun fact - the shot we ended up using in the final edit was the very first take we did that morning.
This video was exhilarating to create with this team. We are small but we are mighty. Go check out the full thing. It’s a beautiful love letter to Barbra Streisand
@barbrastreisand and our love of musical theatre.
