I miss the trees. I miss the owls and their nuanced nocturnal dialog. I miss the hawks returning to their apex nest. I miss the branch that held the web swing I hung years ago. I miss the kids taking flight. I miss picnics in the cool patch of grass that would only grow in the shade of the tree. I miss the daydreams, getting lost in the canopy. I miss the trees.
I want to personally thank James, Rich, Saul, Flora, Gregg, Patrick, Jose, Nick, Karen, Laura, Jenn, Michael, Dusty and anyone else we may have left out who had a hand in so generously donating a little bit of hope to the Altadena community. Out of the kindness of their hearts, they’ve donated hundreds of trees for us to distribute. This post was supposed to be about…letting people know about…the trees we’ve collected to share with those in the Altadena/Pasadena community. Those who were directly affected by the Eaton Fire and want to plant a tree right now, or keep a tree safe for a while until they can. There is a link in our bio on how to sign up and what the next steps are if you are indeed interested. I know it’s not going to bring back what was lost. One day at a time.

This is Heather and Matt and fam of @plant_material 🌱I remember this location opened really close to my first home in Altadena on Lincoln Ave. and I was so happy to see such a cool spot, I believe it was an old service station, turned into a native plant nursery complete with Silkie chickens running around.. They also lost their home in the fire, and are still operating their other 2 Plant Material locations in LA and are planning a holiday market to bring back some love and memories to the Altadena location. (Stay tuned for details on that) Please shop local small business as much as you can not just during the holidays, and support artists of Altadena as we could really use the extra love this year.

Join AFC for a free Milkweed Giveaway at Plant Material in Glassell Park this Saturday! Support Monarch Butterflies by planting native milkweed in your garden, on your patio, or in any green space you have access to.
Milkweed will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. We’ll have 100 milkweed plants available, with a max of 3 per person. Upon arrival, you’ll need to fill out a form with your information in order to receive milkweed. If you received milkweed from us in August, we ask that you please allow the opportunity for others to adopt these plants as well.
