Digable Planets "9th Wonder (Blackitolism)" released September 13, 1994 on Pendulum / Elektra Records and produced by Digable Planets. This was the lead single to their sophomore album Blowout Comb. Digable Planets burst onto the scene in 1992 with the Grammy winning ginormous smash "Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like That)". When you have such a large record out the gate it's extremely difficult moving forward because that one song can overshadow the rest of your career. Digable Planets are a trio consisting of Butter Fly , Doodlebug and Ladybug Mecca. If those names sound eccentric that's fine because it most certainly fit the music. They were different but different is dope. There second album Blowout Comb is widely regarded as a hip hop classic and "9th Wonder (Blackitolism)" was the song that set the wheels in motion. On this record they abandoned their signature jazzy / beatnik sound for a more traditional approach and it worked. This cassette I'm showcasing is a Mint - Near Mint sealed OG copy.
