erthos co-founders Nuha Siddiqui and Kritika Tyagi are working to create a world that’s less reliant on plastics. Their company is tackling the global plastic pollution crisis by reimagining the building blocks of plastics through biobased, sustainable alternatives. What started as a research project @uoft led to Siddiqui and Tyagi building a fast-growing company that has raised USD $12M and secured partnerships with global giants. 🚨 The 6th plastic treaty negotiations (INC-5.2) ends without a deal—again. 3 years. 6 rounds of negotiations. Still no binding global commitment to address the plastic crisis.
So where do we go from here? We cannot wait for policy to catch up. It’s time for innovators, and business leaders to take the lead.
As @nuhakfs shared in her closing words at @buhler_group #NWD25 earlier this summer, future generations cannot carry the weight of our inaction.
At @planeterthos we know the world depends on plastics. But our well-being is inseparable from our planet’s health. We need a strong, binding treaty to: ♻️ Limit plastic production at its source 🌱 Protect ecosystems & human health 💰 Ensure fair, equitable financing
If consensus is out of reach, then we must push harder, shift the narrative, and act. This isn’t just a missed opportunity. It’s a rallying point. 💪

The sustainable materials industry is at a crossroads. For years, bioplastics and compostables have been championed as breakthrough examples of sustainable material solutions to address the escalating plastic pollution crisis. Yet, here we are in 2025, with sustainable materials barely holding 1% of the 400 million-tonne global plastics market. This reality isn’t just disappointing—it’s a wake-up call.
How did we get here? One thing is certain: this isn’t due to a lack of innovation.
Read CEO & Co-Founder Nuha Siddiqui’s latest article, Sustainable Materials Are at Risk—Here’s Why It Matters.
Comment “Materials” and we’ll DM’ the article to you!
As the world has turned towards sustainable materials over the decades—from the early days of plant-based plastics to today’s advanced biodegradable composites—the promise of a less pollutive future can be perceived to be within reach. Yet, recent shifts in the industry suggest new trends that are worth discussing.
Major players, some of the largest corporations in the world, are reverting to recycled plastics despite less than 10% of plastics actually being recycled. On the other hand companies are scaling back on their commitments to sustainable initiatives, influenced by market dynamics and regulatory changes.
These shifts raise critical questions about the viability of sustainable materials. Are they on the brink of extinction? What does this mean for our health as humans?
At erthos®, we stand firm in our mission to advance sustainable alternatives that significantly reduce traditional plastics’ environmental, climate, and health impacts. We believe that with continued innovation and collective effort, sustainable materials can thrive, helping to forge a sustainable path forward for the global manufacturing sector.
We invite you to join the conversation as we delve into these developments. What are your thoughts on the future of sustainable materials?
