Hunting is transformed from instantaneous violence into a sustained oppression packaged within an entertainment system. The fishing rod is no longer a tool for capture, but a structure for delayed violence; what is being pulled is not the animal itself, but the mythologized image of civilization. In a system that prides itself on entertainment and order, oppression often does not appear in the guise of violence, but subtly manifests itself in the form of “play,” “rules,” and “neutral technology.”
