A glimpse from yesterday’s shoot with @pixmarc
We are in a moment of building. New work. New space. New possibilities for what this can become.

"The Evolution of Separation" by @mikeesperanza
I primarily wanted to watch, but I also wanted to make pictures. Decided to do both by shooting without looking through the camera. I would imagine a box on stage that represents the edges of the frame. As the action moves I go with it. Controls are memorized so I can make exposure adjustments on the fly, and haptic feedback lets me know how long the shutter is open. I can also reset the focus point to center without looking. Between that and zone focusing I was good to go. A different kind of mental game, and making pictures of the talented dancers of @baredanceco made it that much more fun.
Getting to photograph Cardi B was an unexpected pleasure!

Two of my images are Nominees for the 18th Annual International Color Awards. There were over 7000 entries and this is my sixth consecutive year being selected. Quite an honor!
The first image was also my first time photographing a tap dancer in studio. @jared_alexandah was quite amazing to photograph, literally explosive energy from start to finish! The session was right before my birthday, very special indeed.
The second image is from the 2024 Asbury Park Dance Festival. @ap_dancefest is one of my favorite events. I will be attending this year and it is already sold out!
Currently preparing my submission for the 19th Color Awards.
This was a bittersweet July 4th. The first without my mom. There is a spot that we would get to early, so that my Mom could stay in the car and still have a good view of the show. Although I think a lot of the time she was mostly watching me photograph the fireworks. A little different this year, and tough to find the celebration, especially with the way things are right now.
My fireworks and dance photography are strongly connected. How I approach each image, and the techniques used are the same. Here are some of my experiments:
1. Dendrobium
2. Vermilion Dandelion
3. Spin & Drift
4. Hemoglobin
5. Warped Pastels
6. Dipping Your Toe In The Universe
7. Coalesce
8. We Are Stardust
Thanks for looking!
I shoot a lot of broad sweeping motion, but I also like quiet moments like this. Only a few traces of movement are visible.
This session with @breannegranlund was focused on colors, emotions, and transitions. We jumped in a studio last September, right before I turned 50. I was definitely thinking deeply about art and time, and what it meant to me.
Our color choices were definitely driving the feel of every shot, but Breanne's intentionality and elegant movement is what connected everything. Such a treat! I enjoyed every minute and there are more images to come.
What emotions do you feel when viewing these?
I want to thank everyone who sent messages or left lovely comments after my mom passed away. My family and I appreciate you all.
Here are some of the pictures we found after my mom passed. Several I had never seen before. Like discovering hidden treasures.
On Sunday my mother Susan Ginley Santos passed away, surrounded by Marc, Fiona, Deirdre, and Patricia. We spent the day singing to her, praying with her, sharing stories, and playing her favorite operas. She held cancer at bay for the past four and a half years and did it uncomplainingly, with a smile. We all feel so blessed to have had her with us for 87 years.

Please be sure to share your memories of my mom in the guestbook there, so her siblings across the globe get to see how beloved she was by everyone who knew her.
