Geraldine Gardner's 1981 Bombalurina unitard.
While putting it on and taking it off was a very gentle and slow process, I took photos in 30 seconds flat so as not to keep this costume on my body haha
But I had to see what she really looked like on, the details we can never make out in old grainy photos. And it's gorgeous. She's beautiful. From far away, you'd think the black was just black, but the up close sponging and brush strokes are just phenomenally detailed. The tiny fluffy pieces give an adorable illusion of fur, the quality of lycra the used back then is so high, that the only issue with this costume 45 years later is only in the thread that holds it together.
I was lucky enough to acquire this unitard from a very wonderful individual who worked wardrobe on the show back beginning in 81. She's incredibly kind, generous, and adores the theatre so dearly- as do I. I'm so lucky that she was willing to entrust this piece of history to me, and with me she'll stay safe and sound, just as she's been kept decades prior.
I hope you all enjoy such a close look at something I believe most, if not all of us, thought long gone. *This* is Cats.

Carousel of recently finished things.
I've been trying to remind myself of two things:
Mental health is not an excuse for poor delivery on work, if I were working for a company, I would have no job at this point.
And yet my worth is not based on my productivity. Just because I'm struggling doesn't mean I'm useless like my brain keeps saying.
I've never been so far behind on my work. I've also never had to deal with things I'm currently dealing with before. Everyone's patience and graciousness is so deeply appreciated, but I KNOW that my delays are completely unprofessional, so thank you both for your kindness, and for your accepting the little things I can do to make up for it. You all mean a lot.

Way too long in the making.
I took on this job admittedly not realizing exactly how much would be involved. I assumed I would be able to purchase tassels, but that didn't work out. So every tassel on this Mexico Macavity was hand made by me with kanekalon, a bead cap, and the tiniest crochet hook known to humankind, each was then handsewn on, only to realize that wasn't strong enough because of how slippery the hair was, so I had to go back and machine sew them all as well. The LEDs are each sewn four times to the unitard through plastic to keep them safe and sturdy. So he took way too long out of overwhelm.
I'm so glad to see him finished, and I can't wait to see him with his owner.
