Michelangelo - Finished Painting
12 feet wide by 6 feet tall. The largest canvas painting I’ve ever done and it’s finished!
I made this canvas in August 2025 and then started painting it about a month later. There are no stretchers that would fit this size so I decided to nail it to the wall and make it happen. I thought this would take me about 2 or maybe 3 months to complete.
Now I have the full Renaissance set, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid and completing the project is like a full circle. My childhood heroes are now a part of my work with a tribute to the old masters.
I’ll be showing this on Thursday @studio216.DTLA in Downtown Los Angeles as part of Art Night on Thursday March 5th. Come check it out!

This painting is Raphael the Ninja Turtle as a painting by Raphael the painter. The original artwork is titled ‘ Saint Michael Vanquishing Satan ‘
I’ve been a Ninja Turtles fan since the cartoon first came out in ‘87. I was also first introduced to the famous Renaissance artists, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo through the Ninja Turtles and fell in love with creating art.

Draw with volume
This is a quick demonstration of how I like to start my drawings.
I begin by gestural sketch lines of the subject’s volume. Starting this way, sets you up with a better understanding of the proportions, composition and gesture. This is an example of portrait drawing but it can be applied to any subject.
So, instead of drawing by starting with detail or making an outline, I think it’s more useful to flesh out the volume and composition. Here’s a breakdown of the steps,
1. Start with the volume. What major shapes can you use to begin the drawing?
2. Once you have the shapes, you can start measuring where the secondary forms will be.
3. Now we can begin adding details. I keep my lines light until the final form.
4. Darken the lines, add weight and contrast to finish the drawing.

LA Fingers

The painting was done in my studio, looking at the LA skyline.
An iconic photograph that has become a staple of Cholo culture and LA. I remember as a kid in the 90’s, it was frowned upon for people to throw up gang signs, or even hand signals in general. A photograph like this becoming as big and culturally relevant as it is now is a testament to how pop culture has evolved.
I chose these colors specifically for the relation to the LA Dodgers logo. The white LA contrasts with the ultramarine blue in an unmistakable way. I added the colors here to enhance contrast in the extension style, using color as part of my composition. The original painting and prints are available on my shop.

Lady With A Labubu
This is a reinterpretation of Leonardo DaVinci’s ‘Lady With An Ermine’. Here we see a beautiful lady (my wife) with a Labubu, this one is royalty of course.
The painting is oil on wood panel and has recreated DaVinci’s Sfumato style of blending the edges of the subject into the background. There are some elements of North African style blended with the clothing of the original Italian Renaissance dress from the DaVinci painting. This painting is a portrait of my wife, she’s holding a Labubu. This is a plush toy created by Kasing Lung, an illustrator from Hong Kong.

Protesters turn classic art into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
A group of activists has replaced the Mona Lisa with a version of Leonardo and staged a protest. Caught by security cameras, this situation is still developing, our sources say that museum workers were shell shocked to find that the classic works of art were replaced overnight by the Ninja Turtles whose names were based on Renaissance artists. Other locations have also reported similar events. The protests has been explained as greenhouse gases turning our art into green turtles.
Onlookers questioned how this could have happened. It’s possible they used sewer entrances and hid in the shadows. The only witness seems to have been Ms. O’Neil from channel 6 news. More about this issue can be found in previous posts.

This is the largest painting I’ve ever done and it’s almost complete!
The Ninja Turtles project has taken 2 years to complete and the scale of the paintings has grown since I first envisioned it. What started as a fun ‘Mona Lisa as Leonardo the Ninja Turtle’ painting is now a fully developed project. Now I’m about to finish my largest canvas painting, with just a few more details to add, I can officially say it’s about to be done!

How to draw - Face Structure
This is a tutorial on how to draw a human face.
In this step-by-step guide, here I break down how to start with an oval shape and build the structure of a human face by measuring the major shapes. You can then follow how to create the details and finish the linework of the head.
I designed as an easy to follow directions for building the face when looking directly at the front of the head. This is a generalization; everyone has a different head shape but the structure is mostly similar across human proportions.

Michelangelo - work in progress, 4.5 months
This is the fourth of my ‘Ninja Turtles as Renaissance art by the artist they were named after’ project. This is a painting the Ninja Turtle Michelangelo as the ‘Creation of Adam’.
All the shapes are complete, forms and colors are in place. I repainted the belt and nunchaku, the colors are more in line with how they appear in the first movie.
I’m almost done with the background, more detail on the bricks has been added.
Also added more in the dark areas to get a higher contrast, especially on Splinter.
