Pip Durell doesn’t so much design shirts as refine a uniform. The London-based founder of With Nothing Underneath, the cult British label known for its wardrobe staples, began her career as a British “Vogue” stylist and “Tatler” editor before turning her attention to creating the perfect shirt.
What started in 2017 with altering men’s tailoring for her own wardrobe has since evolved into a collection of understated essentials, cut with a borrowed-from-the-boys ease and an unmistakably English sense of restraint. Grounded in sustainably made fabrics and an ethos of permanence over novelty, the pieces are designed to be worn without overthinking.
Durell shares the items she can’t live without in AIR MAIL’s “Guest Edit” column. Link in bio.
Incredibly proud today to see WNU listed in the 100 fastest growing companies in Great Britain by the @thetimes
It’s quite astonishing and I am as shocked as anyone else. Building a business was never something I set out to do but creating @withnothingunderneath has been the most incredibly rewarding and emotional and tough and exciting experience - all rolled into one. The creative aspect was something I came with and the rest has been learnt on the job, something that could only have happened with the best team, and support system.
Feeling very grateful 🙏💙 love Pip x
@withnothingunderneath x @lucywilliams02 is here! And we are so blown away by the response to the launch yesterday 💙🤎
It’s hard to explain how much goes into a project like this; a true labour of love to bring the style and eye of a collaborator into a brand and allow the end product to feel truly right for both. I am so proud that this is exactly what has happened here - a beautiful collection bringing Lucy’s eye to WNU.
A huge shout out to the WNU team who have worked so hard on this - from design and production, all the way through to launch day. Always so grateful to be surrounded by such an incredible team.
To celebrate, Lucy and I took some friends to Devon, somewhere we both love for a few days of sea swims, pints, cottons and cosy evening. Thank you to @fowlescombe for having us - you were heaven.
A very short and very sweet trip to NYC 🍎 gorgeous gorgeous people made for a very lovely time in-10 ❤️🔥 always so grateful for the love, we’ll be back before you know it….
A week that needs a grid; a trip to the Houses of Parliament 🇬🇧 for the launch of the women’s unemployment index with @smartworkscharity , a quarterly board meeting, a crown fitted 🦷😬, a store refurb, a crack of dawn hair appointment 💅🏻, a team leadership offsite, a SS sign off, dirty burger takeaway suppers, a building site review for a new store, and planning for NYC on Monday 😁 ready for a weekend of rest parenting a toddler lol 💕🫶
Ps. We worked hard but the st James jacket & romy skirt worked harder this week 🤝🖤
