Still at a loss for words when it comes to this years @oneshothairawards , but let me try and sum up all my feels… I set a goal at last years @thebtcshow to get into the Top 50 for the 2023 awards. I remember being so nervous to write that down and hold myself to it going into the new year. I didn’t think I could top my entries from 2022 and didn’t want to disappoint myself. But as I always remind myself, everything I have ever wanted lives on the other side of fear. I went into 2023 with high hopes and optimism and was excited to create, but was swiftly put right on my ass. This year has been an absolute train wreck to say the least. For two months living in pain with no answers, depressed with absolutely zero motivation, I was really at rock bottom. But with One Shot entries opening up, it gave me happiness and purpose to create my art. I would get lost for hours and just forget about my troubles and it gave me so much joy to look at my photos and be like, “Bitch, you did that!” Fast forward to May when life really threw up the middle finger at me - two stints in the hospital with major surgery involved and over a month out of work. I was back to my rock bottom unfortunately. I was slowly rebuilding myself back up to my old self when I found out I was nominated for FOUR categories, with two images making it to the finals and I damn near lost my mind. I blew my goal out of the water and was so proud of myself. I was able to find light in all this darkness and this was the light I needed to help me move forward. As always, I had such a memorable weekend seeing familiar faces and making new connections at @thebtcshow . I’ve come back to NYC with such great energy and I’m so blessed to have my health and this wonderful thing I call my life. 🩷

In honor of the @oneshothairawards this weekend, here are all my nominations for this year! I am so honored to be a finalist in not one but TWO One Shot categories and to also be recognized in a Big Shot category! A huge thank you to @behindthechair_com for recognizing and appreciating my work. Unfortunately, they stayed in that back seat so long that I just lost the motivation to create altogether. I almost was going to just let the @oneshothairawards pass by and not even enter this year. I knew I would have been so disappointed in myself if I let that happen, so I picked myself back up and just jumped right back in. And damn it felt good. I didn’t have many people showing me the way when I started (for those that did, you know who you are and I’m grateful). In my first shop, I was met with a lack of patience from my “manager,” who never took the time to help me or actually teach me. I’d catch coworkers smirking while I struggled through a haircut, instead of offering any kind of guidance. Judging my clients as they walked out the door. It absolutely crushed my confidence. But that’s exactly why I don’t operate that way now. Just because that was my experience doesn’t mean it has to be the next person’s. I choose to break that cycle and actually help the people coming up behind me. If you know, you teach. If you’ve been there, you guide.
