This is a Philippine Christmas greeting card from the 1960’s. It depicts a scene of people walking towards a church at night to attend midnight mass the night before Christmas Day. In the foreground and background, you can see the people are dressed nicely to go to church. The man in the foreground wears a Barong Tagalog made of translucent fabric that has vents/slits at the side, sleeves, and a collar, all of which are elements of a traditional Barong Tagalog. The man in the background towards the center wearing a hat also appears to be wearing a Barong Tagalog. We at Pineapple Industries hope you celebrated and enjoyed the Christmas season and holiday. Thank you for all your support. God bless you all. #barong #barongtagalog #barongs #pineappleindustries #pineappleind #pinoy #pinay #filipino #filipina #filipinx #pilipino #pilipina #filipiñiana #filipiniana #barongculture #custombarong #fittedbarong #everydaybarong #filipinoformalwear #tailoredbarong #formalbarong #filipinotradition #filipinoculture #filipinohistory #filipinoclothes #filipinoclothing #baronghistory #filipinoheritage #journeyofthebarongtagalog #filipinoart

Journey of the Barong Tagalog Addendum Part 20.41: En Trage de Ir ĂĄ Misa by JosĂ© Honorato Lozano This painting is plate number 13 from JosĂ© Honorato Lozano‘s Nyssens-Flebus album circa 1844 or 1846. Lozano was commissioned to paint this album by GĂ©rard-ThĂ©odore-Emile Nyssens, a Belgian trader in Manila, in the mid-19th century. This collection of paintings was a Nyssens family heirloom made famous by Nyssens’ great-great-grandson, Jean Flebus, on the TV show UK Antiques Roadshow in 1995. The watercolor pieces in this album show the local people, clothing, places, and customs in the Spanish costumbrista tradition. The painting featured here is titled En Trage de Ir ĂĄ Misa, which translates to “On the Way to Mass” or “Going to Mass”. The subjects in this painting appear to be a woman with her back turned and a Chinese Filipino man. Both are dressed in fancy and formal clothing indicating their wealth and status. The woman with her back turned wears a baro’t saya (blouse and skirt) outfit complete with accessories. On top, she wears an undershirt or corpiño with a translucent baro or camisa over that with large flared sleeves shaped like bells or angel wings. The baro is likely made of plant fiber fabrics, like jusi, abaca, or piña. The sleeves are covered in embroidery. Over the baro, she wears a red alampay or pañuelo, which is a shawl worn over the shoulders. For her bottoms, she wears a blue polka dot saya (skirt), that reaches the ground, with a black beaded sobrefalda, which is an overskirt. On her head, the woman wears an embroidered mantilla or veil made of lace or silk. Her hair is held up in the upper back of her head with a payneta (fancy hair comb). The man wears a translucent Barong Tagalog with all over embroidery, and it is likely made of plant fiber fabrics jusi, abaca, or piña. It has a half open button down design with a center placket, pointed fold down collar, long sleeves with French cuffs, and side vents. He wears formal slacks with the side seams covered by a strip of fabric, like tuxedo pants. The man also wears black shoes, a derby hat, and he carries a thin cane. The cane may be a status symbol for membership in the principalia.

Sending our best wishes, many congratulations, and lots of love to Kristie and Eric. They celebrated their wedding surrounded by loved ones last summer at the breathtaking Willows in Villanova, Pennsylvania. We met with Eric, measured him, and talked about his custom Barong Tagalog, customizations, and other subjects, earlier that summer. We had a great conversation. We were overjoyed that Eric was happy with his Barong, and there were so many great pictures to look through. Thanks again to Eric and Kristie for this chance to be a part of their wedding and for sharing their photos with us. Eric wears the hand embroidered piña silk Ricky Barong Tagalog with special customizations. This and all our barongs are available at pineappleind.com (link in bio). All our barongs are made in the Philippines. Happy belated birthday to Dino! We hope you’re enjoying your birthday week. Dino wears the Pineapple Industries logo everyday barong in grey chambray, which is a heavier fabric than the usual light and airy ramie fabric on our everyday barongs. These are wearable in spring, fall, or even the unusually warm winter days we are experiencing in New York City. These chambray cotton blend fabric barongs are also wrinkle resistant, which is a nice feature for barongs, which are known to wrinkle easily, especially when active. See this and the rest of our everyday barong offerings at pineappleind.com (link in bio). This and all our barongs are proudly made in the Philippines. #barong #barongtagalog #barongs #pineappleindustries #pineappleind #filipiñiana #filipiniana #tailoredbarong #barongculture #modernfilipiniana #fittedbarong #modernbarong #barongstyle #barongsinNY #gusotmayaman #gusotmayamanbarong #workbarong #everydaybarong #ramiebarong #linenbarong #cottonbarong #barongsonthestreet #shortsleevebarong #casualbarong #filipinoclothing #embroideredbarong #readytowearbarong #barongcollection #barongbrand #officebarong

On this Valentine’s Day, we celebrate love. Belated congratulations to Cole and Alfred who made their union official just last summer surrounded by their family and friends. It was a great honor and a pleasure to work with Cole and Alfred many months before their wedding. They decided on matching Ryan L. barongs with some special customizations, the most memorable and personal touch being the “c & a” monogram on the back of the collars (see 5th photo). We wish Cole and Alfred a lot of love and happiness, a happy Valentine’s Day, and we hope the married life has been going well. See more of the hand embroidered jusi Ryan L. Barong Tagalog and the rest of our barong collections at pineappleind.com (link in bio). All our barongs are proudly made in the Philippines. 📾: @auraphotostudios #barong #barongtagalog #barongs #pineappleindustries #pineappleind #filipiñiana #filipiniana #tailoredbarong #barongculture #modernfilipiniana #custombarong #fittedbarong #formalbarong #filipinoformalwear #barongvstuxedo #jusibarong #silkbarong #modernbarong #weddingbarong #weddingbarongs #filipinoweddingstyle #barongstyle #barongsatweddings #barongcollection #barongbrand #filipinoclothing #embroideredbarong #barongsonthestreet #barongsinNY #filipinowedding

Journey of the Barong Tagalog Addendum Part 20.40: Lecheros by JosĂ© Honorato Lozano This image is the 11th plate from the Nyssens-Flebus album (circa 1844/1846) by Filipino master painter JosĂ© Honorato Lozano. He was commissioned to create this album by GĂ©rard-ThĂ©odore-Emile Nyssens, a Belgian trader in Manila during the mid-19th century. This collection of 25 Lozano paintings stayed in the Nyssens family for generations in Belgium, and it was made famous by Nyssens’ great-great-grandson, Jean Flebus, in 1995 on the TV show UK Antiques Roadshow. The watercolor pieces in this album show the local people, clothing, places, and customs in the Spanish costumbrista tradition. The painting featured here is titled Lecheros, which translates to milk vendors. At the time, milk vendors delivered fresh carabao or other milk to their customers’ homes early in the morning keeping tallies and accounts for deliveries for each customer. At the end of each month, they collect the money owed for deliveries that month. The female milk vendor wears a baro’t saya (top and skirt). Her top is a long sleeve white baro with flared sleeves. On top of her baro, draped over her shoulders, is an alampay, or kerchief, used to wipe away sweat and protect her neck from the sun. The milkmaid also wears a plaid skirt with a dark tapis (overskirt) on top of it. There is a hint of white lace or crochet in the front of the skirt, which is likely a skirt undergarment or slip, called an enaguas. Around her neck is either an anting anting (talisman) or a scapular (religious necklace). She carries a bottle in one hand, tree branches in the other, and a gogoreta (milk jug) on top of her head, which is common practice for milkmaids. On top of her gorgoreta is a wood cane tabo (dispenser). The tabo is used to distribute and measure units of milk sold. The male milk vendor wears a white work Barong Tagalog with striped long trousers. On his head is a salakot (helmet-like native headwear) with a putong (native head wrap) underneath. He carries his gogoreta and bamboo pitcher balanced by a tree branch over his left shoulder. In his right hand is a handful of tree branches.

Journey of the Barong Tagalog Addendum Part 20.39: La Romeria ĂĄ la Fiesta de Antipolo by JosĂ© Honorato Lozano The first image is plate number one from the Nyssens-Flebus album (circa 1844/1846) by Filipino master painter JosĂ© Honorato Lozano. He was commissioned to create this album by GĂ©rard-ThĂ©odore-Emile Nyssens, a Belgian trader that spent years in Manila exporting goods, mainly tobacco, during the mid-19th century. This collection of 25 Lozano paintings stayed in the Nyssens family for generations in Belgium. This album became internationally famous, and in turn made Lozano known worldwide, when Nyssens’ great-great-grandson, Jean Flebus, a Belgian banker, brought it to be featured on the television show UK Antiques Roadshow in 1995. See fifth image of Flebus and his wife holding the album. The watercolor pieces in this album are done in the costumbrista tradition where local people, clothing, places, and customs are shown. The painting featured here is titled La Romeria ĂĄ la Fiesta de Antipolo, which translates to The Pilgrimage or The Outing to the Festival of Antipolo. Antipolo, located in the Sierra Madre mountains east of Manila, holds its annual fiesta in May where people from Manila flock to to visit the Church of Antipolo, which houses the shrine to Mary called Virgen de la Paz y Buen Viaje (Virgin of Peace and Safe Travels). The painting here depicts the fiesta with visitors and townspeople standing, squatting, walking, getting carried in hammocks, and riding horseback or in a horse drawn carriage, at an intersection of roads down the street from the Church. The second, third, and fourth images show a closer look at the people and their clothing in the left, center, and right portions of the painting respectively. With the exception of the uniformed soldier and two Chinese men in native garb, the men in the foreground wear striped or solid Barong Tagalog, slacks, slippers, and western style hats. All the women wear baro’t saya (top and skirt) with a tapis (overskirt) and a pañuelo (shawl) draped around their shoulders with slippers. The male servants in the background wear rolled up work pants and salakots on their heads.

Happy new year! Now that the holidays are over, we are back to dealing with everyday life. Yeah, that can be boring, depressing, and even cold, depending on where you live. But the bright side is now we have a clean slate to put our best feet forward to work towards a goal. That could be a better job, better health, vacation, or just getting through the winter. Warmer weather and vacations are always a great thing to look forward to and plan for. Before we know it, it will be warm enough to wear barongs outside again. So, it’s time to build up that barong collection, and everyday barongs are a great way to represent your culture on a daily basis without having to damage or overuse your more delicate formal barongs. Wyn’s pink everyday barong here is made of comfortable, breathable, and durable ramie fabric, which is a lot like linen. This adds that pop of color to celebrate the warmth and colors of being outside again. Check out these and the rest of our everyday barong offerings at pineappleind.com (link in bio). We will be adding more colors in the coming weeks. Stay tuned. All our barongs are proudly made in the Philippines. #barong #barongtagalog #barongs #pineappleindustries #pineappleind #filipiñiana #filipiniana #tailoredbarong #barongculture #modernfilipiniana #fittedbarong #modernbarong #barongstyle #barongsinNY #gusotmayaman #gusotmayamanbarong #workbarong #everydaybarong #ramiebarong #linenbarong #cottonbarong #barongsonthestreet #shortsleevebarong #casualbarong #filipinoclothing #embroideredbarong #readytowearbarong #barongcollection #barongbrand #officebarong
