🍄To me the film is an afterthought on democracy. I had to include affect and role of emotions in decision making. Our leaders sometimes lack the affective capacity to make the right decisions.

Schwanger mit Ideen. Every piece I make is an experiment in neuroscience. Digital artists will know , when you are creating digitally and if you are GOOD at your software - if you are not just FIGURING IT OUT pressing buttons randomly , you have a plethora of choice - gazillions of paths you can take. I typically spend hours choosing the right texture- the right light etc after sculpting my sketch ✍️ which in and of itself has many forking paths. Since digital has no gravity no materiality you can literally be floating amidst options like an astronaut in zeroG in European space station. How do you make decisions then ? How do you end the process?
The decisions come with intuition which may or may not be conscious. Intuition happens over time. Like all good things, good art takes time. In this figure I chose metallic finish with dichorism to it bc I wanted this character to be reflective. Her form made a call for Liquid Metal which I had first seen in Terminator 2. If you dig deeper in the history of visual arts though one would find @hajimesorayamaofficial , whose airbrush work seemed unattainable at the time. Metallic finish captures the eye like nothing else for it makes us think of water . Yes . You read it right. According to Vilayanur Ramanchandran , a neuroscientist at @ucsandiego , humans love shiny surfaces bc it reminds them of water. Don’t y’all love our evolutionary origins?
I chose the texture bc I wanted the sterility of future , the reliability of metal surfaces with the subconscious relief that comes from shiny water. Next we are attuned to faces ( so many science references here - just take my art&thebrain class for a lecture on faces.) I placed the face between her legs bc it activates mirror neurons. A head belongs to the vaginal opening of the woman as women give birth , but this head is fused with her body which breaks the expectation. Where you place it objects of high salience matters in art.

I have always been in awe of numinous imagery. I have been working on a Character named SAINT for a while now, Saint is someone who has seen the worst of the worst but is loving and warm like the white marble of Ephesus heated under the Mediterrenean Sun. I sculpted her face in ZBrush. Spent a long time on it — the proportions, the stillness, the specific kind of contemplation I wanted her to have. She wasn't meant to be beautiful in a conventional way. She was meant to be something else.
Then I brought her into AI to add human skin texture. That's all I asked for. Just texture. What I got back was a beauty filter. Every single time. Every prompt, every iteration — she got smoother, softer, more symmetrical. More acceptable. The AI kept correcting her toward some invisible standard I never asked for.
The strangest part? The cloth draped around her head — the least realistic element in the whole image — survived every prompt completely intact. The AI never touched it. But the face, the part I had actually crafted with intention, got erased and rebuilt into something generic.
She was supposed to say one sentence. That was the whole goal. I never got there. Because somewhere between my sculpt and the output, she stopped being mine. The more I pushed, the more she looked like everyone else's idea of a woman — not the character I had been building. I'm not giving up just yet as I know SAINT has to speak her mind.

Artist-scientist Pinar Yoldas will be back at Gallery QI in May and June with a new project, "There Exist Microplastics in My Subconscious and They Are Seeping into My Dreams.”
Yoldas reflects on art, science, AI, emerging disciplines and a planet awash in plastic in a new interview.
"My work sits at the intersection of art and science, and I see clear, direct communication as essential, especially if it helps society grow and stay healthy," she says.

One of my earliest memories is going through this drawing book by German artist Kathe Kollwitz - where this image of from -Deutschlands Kindern Hungern 1924 - my father, who basically gave me my kindergarten education by forming a dream library for his daughter had this book an original copy that he actually bought from a sales person who went door-to-door to sell English , Japanese or German books to Turkish intellectuals, my father, a young Architect at that point would buy a lot of art books so that I could look at them. I couldn’t read just yet.
This artist is one of the most powerful artists of 20 century. Her work has always been very significant for me. I also recall seeing photos of hungry children in Africa -as a kid myself- in black and white on the newspaper that my parents bought every day , famine and war .
My imagination was already stained with images of starving children. Years later I made work about this and people thought the starving child I made was a pregnant person but we will get to that later
Starving children to death while there’s a hyper culture around food - how do we sleep at night ?

I’m too lazy lately to teach myself social media tricks I’m reading 2 books and teaching and the essay on ocean still needs editing … the drawing is from May ? How did I find time filling an entire sketchbook idk bc I was teaching 3 classes !!! I’m enjoying this summer more than others bc my sensual work is coming forward and meeting new planes of existence . Soon I will be filling an entire museum !
