My first album release, throwback to November 2014! This was such an amazing experience. We recorded a full length record on vinyl with Broadband Theatre, a jazz/funk/afrobeat collective with three brass players! We booked a weekend in a studio in Amsterdam (can you spot the business card on the Rhodes?) and had such a great time laughing, recording our songs, eating, drinking and simply enjoying each other’s company. Then, we had our first real album presentation in @sowhatgouda with many friends and music lovers attending. We all grew a lot musically after that night, broke up, put the band back together, broke up again, and eventually quit after playing together for almost eight years. But, as they say in Dutch: gelukkig hebben we de foto’s nog!
Gear up! 🎹 This a 1980’s Rhodes stage piano. It’s like a regular piano, but with ‘tines’ instead of strings, and pickups so you can hook it up to a guitar amp! .
I picked this one up in 2012 when I had just joined a band. The sound is soooo lush! Despite its heavy weight, it is still used a lot by modern day jazz musicians. You may recognize its sound used by Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire or Jamiroquai. Still play it almost every week!
