Ever since I was little, art has always found its way back into my life. I started with singing, but got bullied for loving rock. I picked up the bass, but it didn’t feel like me. Eventually, I found comfort in drawing because unlike singing, it felt safer, less personal when people judged it. That path led me through an art high school, becoming president, and later surviving a toxic relationship that nearly derailed everything. But I made it out, and today I’m in the Netherlands studying animation, still holding onto the one thing that’s been constant through it all: art. Life is unpredictable. Sometimes we choose what feels safer over what we truly want; and that’s okay. Every experience, even the painful ones, shapes us. Looking back is hard, but it also reminds me how far I’ve come, and how much further I want to go. I love this trend because it gave me a chance to share my story and the moments that made me who I am. Maybe you relate to bullying, to a bad relationship, or to finding solace in creativity.
