More than two decades after Greg Moyer’s death from sudden cardiac arrest during a high school basketball game, Pennsylvania has enacted Greg Moyer’s Law. ❤️ This has been a long and deeply personal journey for Rachel Moyer and her family, alongside many advocates who helped move this effort forward. Rachel, co-founder of Parent Heart Watch, helped lead advocacy efforts resulting in legislation requiring AEDs at school athletic events and practices and requiring schools to develop and practice Cardiac Emergency Response Plans annually. #EmergencyPreparedness #CERP #AccessToAED #CPR #ProtectYoungHearts

Save in Illinois! ❤️ A teen athlete is alive today because people nearby recognized the emergency and took immediate action after he collapsed during track activities at Huntley High School. CPR was started immediately and an AED was used before EMS arrived. Early recognition, CPR, and access to an AED are critical to survival. #RecognizeAndRespond #CallPushShock #AccessToAED #CPR

In a cardiac emergency: Call 911. Start CPR. Retrieve and use an AED. CPR keeps blood flowing to the brain and vital organs. An AED restores a normal heart rhythm. Both are needed to increase the chance of survival. Public guidance too often stops at calling 911 and starting CPR. That leaves out a critical step. Parent Heart Watch is calling on the American Heart Association to clearly include AED use as a core step—and to align with more than 50 partners behind one unified message: Call. Push. Shock. A new North Carolina bill would require every public school to have an AED and a cardiac emergency response plan (CERP) that is practiced. It comes after multiple student cardiac arrests and highlights a serious gap—many schools still don’t have an AED or a CERP in place. A plan must be practiced. In a cardiac emergency, people need to know exactly what to do. #CERP #RecognizeAndRespondToSCA #CallPushShock #AccessToAED #CPR

A new Connecticut bill will require “cardiac screening” for student-athletes starting in 2027—following the loss of a teen who had no signs or symptoms of an underlying heart condition. In this bill, “cardiac screening” means a cardiac risk assessment (history and physical), with ECGs only used if something is flagged. That distinction matters for early detection. @inaheartbeatfoundation #1in300AtRiskForSCA #ECGscreening #EarlyDetection #ProtectYoungHearts

Graycen Vargo, a 21-year-old Texas A&M–Texarkana student-athlete, died after collapsing during a track meet in New Orleans following a medical emergency. His death is a reminder that serious medical emergencies can happen without warning, even to young, active athletes. Awareness, early detection of underlying conditions, and emergency preparedness remain critical. #1in300AtRiskForSCA #ECGscreening #EarlyDetection #ProtectYoungHearts #CERP #CallPushShock #AccessToAED #CPR

Children with cardiomyopathy or implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) should not automatically be restricted from physical activity. A new American Heart Association statement supports individualized evaluation, monitoring, and emergency action plans during recreational or organized sports, including AED access and CPR-trained bystanders, so more children can safely participate. #EmergencyPreparedness #CallPushShock #AccessToAED #CPR #ProtectYoungHearts

Kentucky is still losing high school athletes to preventable deaths. Concerns about safety and oversight were already raised. Those concerns remain and continue to raise questions about emergency response. Cardiac emergency reparedness matters. #1in300AtRiskForSCA #CERP #RecognizeAndRespondToSCA #CallPushShock #AccessToAED

Sarah Katz would have turned 25 today. A new report links the death of a Texas teen to caffeine from an energy drink. In 2023, Canada recalled this energy drink over caffeine content and labeling concerns. A 16-year-old student-athlete who collapsed during football practice died from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, according to the medical examiner. He had no known health conditions aside from childhood asthma, which his family said he had outgrown, and had experienced flu-like symptoms in the days leading up to his collapse. Many youth with underlying heart conditions have no known history. Early detection can help identify risk. #1in300AtRiskForSCA #ECGscreening #EarlyDetection #ProtectYoungHearts
