For my young readers who are tired of their parents refusing to read CRANKY to them one more time, I give you this: CRANKY VERSUS THE CAT. It’s a level 2 I-Can-Read book so now YOU can read CRANKY to your heart’s content and leave your parents alone while they’re binging Severance. Coming in 2026! #cranky #crankversusthecat
COVER REVEAL!!! I’m beyond delighted to share the cover for CRANKY, my collaboration with the brilliant @peteoswald coming January 2024! We can’t wait to introduce you and your kids to the heartfelt and hilarious (and crotchety) adventures of Cranky and friends. Thanks to @harperkids for believing in the Crankyverse and to @catbirdagencypix for encouraging me to be my cranky self in telling this story. And of course, thanks to my agent @slevittslevitt for… everything. #crankythecrane #honkyeah
1987. I think I have maybe 12 pictures of myself from high school. In contrast to the hyper documented lives of my kids, my teenage years (as most Gen Xers’) were a fever dream, barely documented and totally unsupervised. It was great.
Deep gratitude to @mainelibraryassociation for the invitation to deliver the keynote for their annual conference. The theme was “HANG IN THERE” and I was delighted to talk about punk rock, refugees, the DIY spirit, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and libraries. Of course I had to wear my tshirt from @mtpleasantlibraryfriends ! #whatsmorepunkthanthepubliclibrary
Thank you for your enthusiasm for CRANKY VERSUS THE CAT! Here’s an archival picture of 1996 Phuc with his cat India and a crappy Apple computer in his grad school apartment (Phuc with a shaved head, a lot fewer tattoos, and different glasses—grad school was a weird time)! #picturesfromtheCATacombs
Today’s the day! CRANKY VS THE CAT is out for young readers! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it! #crankythecrane #cranky #cat-astrophe
Wrapped up a sold out Moth MainStage in New York with a line up of incredible storytellers! Thanks as always to @mothstories and @thekatetellers for your enthusiasm and support—it continues to be an incredible and life-changing experience. 📷 by Dan Henry.
Thanks to @omainestudios for having me be part of their “Maker’s Way” series about craftspeople— this episode about INK! I had a blast chatting with the super talented @sarahkoffstudio and @wolfeprints about how we intersect with INK in all its glory and messiness. It aired last week on WCSH but you can watch the episode here too: https://streamstate.tv/content/makers-way-ink
