Podcast episode out with @thespaceship.earth on Imagination Activism, what that is and why it’s so sorely needed in these times. This was a magical conversation done out in the woods behind @schumachercollege - if you listen carefully you can hear the crackling of our fire šŸ”„ in the background, and the hoots of owls šŸ¦‰! An Imagination Activist is an activist powered by imagination. šŸ˜Ž Someone I met recently had heard the podcast episode, and came and told me that when he grows up he wants to be an Imagination Activist šŸ˜Ž. That was pretty cool. What if the next wave of activism was powered by imagination, dreams and visions? What if we harnessed our connections with future generations and the more than human world, brought alive by our rewilded imaginations, to fight not for the Earth, but as the Earth? I truly hope you enjoy listening 🌟- it’s probably one of my favourite podcast conversations so far! Thank you for the invitation @dan__burgess ! Last week I was in Brussels on Friday speaking to the 250 wonderful innovators of @socialeinnovatiefabriek about the power of imagination activism, how to flex our big imagination muscles, moral imagining for future generations and nature, and the crisis of imagination that we are in. . One person from the audience came up to me afterwards with tears streaming down her face. She said she felt understood for the first time in years, and that she had a project she desperately wanted to work on, but had been told by so many it was ā€˜frivolous’ and unimportant. That project was to build and design beautiful homes for homeless people. They sat down and talked about the vision, the idea, and what the next steps could be, and how to approach it if she knew she couldn’t fail. It was fantastic to see someone putting the thinking and tools into action immediately! šŸ› āš”ļø . It was an amazing atmosphere, with a lot of fantastic energy towards making the world better for everyone. Many of the innovators shared that sometimes they become tired and feel burned out about trying all the time to make social and ecological change. Imagination can be a way to recharge, to nourish and remember and reconnect with that sense of deeper purpose, direction and inspiration. . Later on that day, 30 VIP social innovators took part in a 90 minute workshop, sharing some of the core tools and practices of Imagination Activism. The participants said they felt ā€œstretched, inspired and hungry to apply the tools to their everyday lives and projectsā€. . Imagination Activism @imagination_activism is something available to everyone. Everyone has the ability, and the right, to imagine - they just need the golden three things: TIME, PERMISSION and SCAFFOLDING with practices. . Follow along for more updates about Imagination Activism, moral imagination, the crisis of imagination and the power of imagination to drive massive change. . #Imagine #ImaginationActivism #moralimagination #imaginebetter #future #betterfuture #whatif #magicif #changetheworld #newsystems #tools #practices #futuregenerations #nature #earth #activists #activism Thanks to @cosh.eco for the photography!

Most people silently believe business as usual is leading us off a cliff. Polling shows majorities believe our current path is unstable, heading toward collapse. Yet we treat it like something to acknowledge… then avoid. What if this shared awareness isn’t just fear — but a starting point? Because once we face it together, ā€œPlan Bā€ stops looking reckless. It becomes the only responsible option. And for it to become reality, we need to exercise our @moral_imagining (see @phoebetickell Read more in our latest report, Mobilising Silent Majorities. šŸ”— Substack in bio #hope #grief #connection #silentmajority #imagination Image cred: Original character Wile E. On Friday I had the great pleasure of spending the day with 16 incredible leaders, working across social care, the NHS, river restoration, to name a few, returning to the fantastic venue of Hawkwood College in Stroud where I am lucky to be a fellow! The day was a deep dive into the life, work and legacy of my late mentor Joanna Macy, where I shared anecdotes and moments from our time together, and key teaching moments which have infused their way into my life and work. The day was co-hosted with my wonderful collaborator, @rupertread , who was also a mentee of Joanna’s, and was also able to speak from his own perspective about her life and work. Together, we led the group through key concepts such as the Great Turning, Great Unravelling, the world as lover, world as self, radical acceptance, the moral imagination, and through some of the most core exercises of the Work That Reconnects spiral. It was as if we entered a portal, and so much occurred in just one day. We did this as an experiment, and we’re confident it went splendidly. The feedback from participants was that they felt lighter, like a weight had been lifted, and as often it is with the Work That Reconnects, it restored their sense of belonging, connection, and wonder - both to each other, and to the wider, more-than-human world. Thanks to all who came! After the workshop, I was lucky enough to spend time with the inimitable @mrs_meg_avon and her beloved, the River Avon. We went for a dip early on Saturday morning, to the horror and fascination of early morning dog walkers. She asked me what the river said to me as I entered into her waters, and I heard her say loudly, ā€˜surrender yourself to me’. It was the perfect way to end ā€˜World As Lover, World As Self’. Thank you Meg! #hawkwood #worldaslover #joannamacy #riveravon #megavon

Across the UK and the globe, a vast majority of people feel threatened by climate chaos and societal breakdown. Yet, a ā€œspiral of silenceā€ persists: the majority only speaks out when they feel powerful enough to act, but that sense of power only comes from hearing others speak. Join me, author Liam Kavanagh, Wim Vermeulen and Phoebe Tickell on Tuesday March 31st for the official launch of Silent Majorities, a landmark report about how to break this impasse. Following the press briefing on March 17 with Covering Climate Now, we’ll be delving into greater detail and leaving more room for questions and reactions to this radical and hopeful report. What if the majority isn’t apathetic...just silent? Across the UK and the world, most people are concerned about climate breakdown and the direction of society. But most of us rarely talk about it. That’s the spiral of silence: we wait to feel powerful before we speak, but that power only comes from hearing others speak first. The majority is already here. Now let’s find our voice. Join @carolinelucasbrighton , Liam Kavanagh, Wim Vermeulen and @phoebetickell for the launch of Mobilising Silent Majorities — a landmark report on how private concern becomes collective power. šŸ—“ March 31 ā° 17:30–19:00 GMT šŸ“ Online šŸŽŸ Free tickets to the Silent Majorities Launch Event — link in bio (our LinkTree) #ClimateMajority #SilentMajorities #ClimateAction #SystemChange ClimateComms

I am moved by the snowy owl, the lynx, the musk-ox and the moose. I am moved by silence and stillness so deep that a single bull finch singing distant songs can be heard with clarity from across the valley. I am moved by mountains that have presence so large and looming, that they register as beings more than features. I am moved by a mountain community who wish to do right by their more-than-human others and who are resisting powers that be, who wish to develop the land into hotels and tourist destinations. I am moved by a living, breathing indigenous culture in these lands and not stamped out but alive in these lands of Norway. I am moved by allies of deep ecology, friends old and new, and a special friendship that started at the suggestion of a mentor no longer with us, called Stephan Harding. I am moved by the Aurora, who visited us on the third day and was followed by the moon setting behind the mountains early the morning after, barely visible on the papery thin pink sky. This quote travelled to me by that new friend, who also brought many wise words and reminded me of the power of the many hands on our backs, supporting us to do the work of showing up for each other and this earth, again and again and again: ā€œI don’t believe we have 1000 years, neither do we have the choice to take the time it takes to do things right.ā€ Words by Freeman House in Totem Salmon, Life Lessons from Another Species. Norway, you have touched something deep in me, and reminded me of many things, and caused me to dig deep and recover many more. #morethanhuman #kin šŸŒ›

Here we are in Norway for our More-Than-Human Governance Project. The sun is rising over the snowy mountains as we are greeted by our many, myriad, quiet and chirping more-than-human kin here - and soon to meet our human collaborators too. #morethanhuman #governance

We’re thrilled to be kicking off the very first Becoming an Imagination Activist weekend training at Hawkwood College! This weekend, we’re embarking on a journey with 15 intrepid explorers of the imagination for an immersive 48 hours of inspiration, vision, courage, and exploration of different futures. Together, we’ll be equipping a new cohort of imagination activists who will go out into the world and create ripple effects reaching many others. We think of imagination activists as imaginal cells—creating the new system within the shell of the old, just like the cells of the butterfly transforming within the chrysalis. We look forward to sharing moments, pictures, and takeaways from this special weekend. #ImaginationActivism #BecomingAnImaginationActivist #ImaginationActivist #Training #HawkwoodCollege #RegenerativeFutures #ImaginalCells
