The Long Island Rail Road that serves New York City’s eastern suburbs has been negotiating for months on a new contract with labor officials representing locomotive engineers, machinists, signalmen and other train workers.

South Carolina’s highest court has granted Alex Murdaugh’s appeal for a new trial. Murdaugh’s defense team appealed before the state Supreme Court in February, arguing that his constitutional right to a fair trial was violated, and that he was wrongfully convicted of the murders of his son, Paul, and his wife, Margaret. The court ruled in Murdaugh’s favor on Wednesday, Andrew Davis of Nexstar’s WSAV confirmed.
