I don’t play out live much anymore (barely at all) but when I do, I improvise these little interludes to give the band time to tune and prep for the next song. This was from a few months ago. I don’t remember doing any of this 😂
Shouts to @benjbarajas for capturing this!
I’ve been in the market for a new drum kit for my studio, so I asked my buddy @derrekcphillips to help me go look for one @nelson_drum_shop
As we’re walking up to the shop, we see @thechrismchugh and @laila_s_lyons walking out and they say “Oh! We’ll come back in and help you pick a kit!”
Chris pointed me directly to this beautiful fiesta red Ludwig kit and then I got to watch to drum masters shed on it.
Just felt like the universe was screaming at me to get this kit! And that’s exactly what I did.
Just another day in beautiful Music City
Thank you to @boldjourneymag for allowing me to share my story on their platform.
I count it nothing short of a blessing that I get to make music every day for a living 🙏🏾
I love album intros. I got that appreciation for them from the gospel records I grew up with. They were this musical statement that said “Strap in! We’re about to go for a wild ride!”
So I made a rule that every producer album I made I’d create an instrumental intro for it. It just makes me feel like a kid again.
I think the “in between” is where the magic lives.
Somewhere in between thought and emotion. Between straight and swung.
Between honoring the past and pushing forward into the future.
I strive to make magic.

If you asked anyone in the Nashville music community what the best thing about Nashville is they’d tell you that it’s just that: the community. Then if you took the music away and just thought about life, you’d probably come to the same conclusion. It’s the people in your life that make it great and they come and go throughout your life just like seasons.
Me and my friend Aaron Raitiere got together one day to write and started talking about all that and this song came out of it. It really hits home. I wanted the production to feel just as conversational and warm as talking to a good friend does.
We decided to put this one out in the world and I’m glad we did. It’s a nice little kernel of truth that reminds you what it’s all about.
Hope you like it
