The magic of cinema often lies in what the audience never notices. Compositing in VFX is the process of blending live‑action footage, CGI, matte paintings, and particle effects into one seamless frame, ensuring that every layer feels like part of a single reality.
In Jubilee, philmCGI delivered more than 700 shots for the series. One subtle yet intricate moment shows photographs slipping from an envelope. To achieve this, artists isolated the envelope, layered paper textures, refined shadows, and animated the staggered motion of each photograph. Grain and lighting were carefully matched to the 1940s aesthetic so the illusion felt authentic to the period.
Every layer was shaped to serve the narrative quietly, without spectacle, but with precision.
Released on Prime Video on 7 April 2023, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Jubilee spans 10 episodes and stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, and Wamiqa Gabbi.

The invisible glue of visual effects. It’s the process of taking different elements—live-action footage, digital environments, CGI characters, practical effects—and blending them together so they feel like one seamless reality.
Think of it as building a puzzle where every piece comes from a different source: a green screen shot, a matte painting, a particle simulation, or a lighting pass. The compositor’s job is to balance colors, shadows, and perspective until the audience forgets these pieces ever existed separately.
Without compositing, VFX shots would look like layers stacked on top of each other. With compositing, they transform into cinematic worlds where dragons fly over cities, actors stand in galaxies, and impossible stories feel completely believable.

On Jubilee, Philm CGI transformed partial sets into fully realised worlds, extending 1940s–50s Bombay studios into expansive environments, stretching architecture into skylines, and populating scenes with dynamic, believable crowds using agent-based simulations and digital doubles. Practical plates and on-set elements grounded the performances, while VFX quietly expanded the scale of every frame.
The Filmfare OTT Award for Best VFX that philmCGI won for Jubilee stands as a milestone in our journey. It recognized not just the technical brilliance of the VFX, but also the collaborative spirit that drove the project. For us, it was a celebration of artistry, teamwork, and the magic of cinema.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and streaming on Amazon Prime Video, the series brings alive the golden age of Hindi cinema with hundreds of VFX shots and a cast including Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sidhant Gupta, and Ram Kapoor.
The intent was simple, to make the world feel complete. Not constructed, not enhanced, just real.

Our team at philmCGI delivered around 600 VFX shots, many requiring entire background worlds to be created. Kashmir landscapes were enhanced digitally, Calcutta’s Howrah Bridge was reconstructed in 3D, and river sequences were layered with haze and depth. Snow simulations and psychological visuals like moths and ink blots added atmosphere.
Each frame was shaped to serve the story quietly, without spectacle, but with precision.
Released on Netflix on 1 December 2022, directed by Anvita Dutt, the film runs 119 minutes and stars Tripti Dimri, Babil Khan, and Swastika Mukherjee.
