Hey all, I know I’ve been quiet. I’m still grieving Stegosaurus, this time of year is hard because this is when we’d do the most outdoor stuff before the summer got too hot. One of the things that helped was finally finishing this course from @michaelshikashio which kept me focused on helping other dogs. He recently did a private workshop for @phillyunleashed and it’s made me want to write a book to help reactive dog owners in crowded cities. Thank you to everyone who’s reached out offering condolences on Steg’s passing. It means a lot.

Meet Arthur the tiny baby angel… just kidding — this 6-month-old Newfoundland is already an absolute BEHEMOTH 🐻‍❄️ Today’s lesson: how to sit politely while your human has a conversation. It sounds simple, but it’s one of the most overlooked (and most important) life skills — for dogs and humans. The ability to be a little bored, to pause, to exist without immediately acting on every impulse. Arthur really wanted to go say hello. And yes, we had a minor (previously much bigger 😅) temper tantrum about it. But instead of giving in to the chaos, we worked through it. Because here’s the deal:Politeness earns you freedom. Once he could sit, settle, and wait — he got exactly what he wanted: the chance to move, explore, and say hi. Each day gets a little smoother. Each pause gets a little easier. And each choice to regulate instead of react builds a dog you can take anywhere.
