“Philadelphia thrift store turns sticky notes into stepping stones” . . PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- In less than a year, Community Thrift in Brewerytown has received more than 100,000 donations, employed a dozen people in need of a second chance, and clothed droves of people who didn't have the means. Their novel approach to paying it forward -- turning sticky notes into stepping stones. Action News' Christie Ileto has more. . . . Huge shout out to our friend and longtime supporter of the community, @christie_ileto of @6abcactionnews for coming out and talking with us about our 5 month anniversary of @communitythriftphilly as we close out 2024. Thank you for always sharing the stories that definitely need to be shared, Christie! You are first class as always! 🙌🏽🙏🏽💜🙏🏽🙌🏽 So many amazing and good things happening. Thank you to all who support us in our continued admission and with our continued evolvement of our workforce development program. . . . Check 🔗 in bio for story . . . Murals by @rendawriter

“Turning sidewalks into sanctuaries…” - @christie_ileto . . . As the temps sword to dangerous and life-threatening numbers this week, we took to the streets and set up, temporary cooling stations on sidewalks and distributed water and other resources to our neighbors. From Kensington to Brewerytown to being mobile in city, we were able to distro over 2400 bottles of water in two days. We are able to make connections with individuals and provide them with resources on where to stay safe during this heat wave. In addition, none of this would’ve been possible without the kindness and donations from our partners and community and friends over at @goodwerks who donated over 40 cases of 40 packs of water as they hosted a water / resource donation drive for us in honor of their 5 year anniversary! (We will post later today about the open house and the service project they did for us at the Ruth Street Garden.) Today is going to be a brutal day again and we urge everyone to stay safe and cool. Check on your friends, family, and neighbors. Take an extra bottle of water or a towel out with you and hand it to somebody in need. This is not a me thing, it is a we thing… and we can’t do any of what we do without each of you. And a huge shout out to our friend and amazing journalist @christie_ileto of @6abcactionnews for sharing our stories and spreading light on some of the positive things happening in our city. We are grateful for the continued support and belief in our mission, Christie! 🙌🏽🙏🏽💜🙏🏽🙌🏽 . . . #community #phillyunknown #communityovercompetition #heatwave #philly #philadelphia #unapologeticallybritt #6abcaction #awareness #hydration #phillysupportphilly #commitment #advocate #compassion #peopledelphia

Mental Health Matters . . . May is Mental Health Awareness month. Checking in on yourself is just as important as checking in on everyone else. Healing isn’t always loud — sometimes it’s simply getting through the day, asking for help, setting boundaries, or choosing to keep going. Be kind to yourself. Be patient with others. And remember: you never truly know what someone is carrying. 🖤 #MentalHealthMatters #Healing #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCare YouAreNotAlone
