Monet in Vétheuil
From the warmth of summer to the hush of winter, the Impressionist master captured it all.
Exquisitely rendered in a flurry of delicate brushstrokes, 'La Route de Vétheuil, effet de neige,' 1879, was painted during Claude Monet's first full year in the rural hamlet of Vétheuil, northwest of Paris. The work captures the stillness and serenity of a bright winter's day with remarkable clarity, the deep, fresh snow offering Monet a unique opportunity to study the striking effect of refracted winter light across its surface.
