Monet in Vétheuil From the warmth of summer to the hush of winter, the Impressionist master captured it all. Exquisitely rendered in a flurry of delicate brushstrokes, 'La Route de Vétheuil, effet de neige,' 1879, was painted during Claude Monet's first full year in the rural hamlet of Vétheuil, northwest of Paris. The work captures the stillness and serenity of a bright winter's day with remarkable clarity, the deep, fresh snow offering Monet a unique opportunity to study the striking effect of refracted winter light across its surface. Modern & Contemporary Art Evening Sale New York 19 May

Back to the boulevard. In 'Liqueurs, musique, chemiserie (avec sept voitures)', Jean Dubuffet transforms the banal into spectacle, reimagining a Parisian street as a teeming circus. Executed in 1961, the work brims with the compressed humanity of the modern boulevard. It follows Dubuffet's return to figuration with the 'Barbes' (Beards) series, initiated in 1959, which drew him out of quasi-abstraction into the messy exuberance of everyday life. Modern & Contemporary Art Evening Sale New York 19 May Modern & Contemporary Art: Morning Session New York 21 May Photo credit: © Kurt Wyss

Abstraction across generations Emily Mason’s mother was her first artistic influence, exposing her to the life of a practicing artist before she could hold a brush. A visionary in her own right, Alice Trumbull Mason is recognized as one of the earliest abstract painters in the United States. “When I look back on my mother, I remember someone who was resilient and driven by her principles. She was first and foremost an abstract painter — a pioneer of her time from pioneer stock.” —Emily Mason on her mother, Alice Trumbull Mason Modern & Contemporary Art: Morning Session New York 21 May Emily Mason and Alice Trumbull Mason, c. early 1960s Emily Mason, Warwood Mason, and Alice Trumbull Mason, 1954 Emily Mason with her mother, Alice Trumbull Mason, 1932 © 2026 Emily Mason and Alice Trumbull Mason Foundation/ Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York

An iconic work by KAWS shows us more than one way to see the downtown scene through the ages. KAWS’ bus shelter interventions from the early 2000s offer a striking commentary on a neighborhood once owned by the street artists of the 1980s — an era defined by friction and pulse, squalor and freedom, collective creativity, and social crisis. From David Wojnarowicz to KAWS, Marilyn Minter, and more, discover the New York artists whose works continue to define this ever-evolving scene. Modern & Contemporary Art: Afternoon Session New York 21 May © KAWS
