On the afternoon of Monday May 9th 1966 David went on location with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers to get some shots for the sleeve of their new album with Eric Clapton.
He eventually found an alleyway and a small courtyard near the Old Kent Road with some political graffiti on a wall.
He got the band to sit on a step in front of the wall as he lay down on the ground to snap.
Clapton continued to read his Beano magazine and of course David continued to shoot, knowing how iconic the set of images in his Rollieflex camera were. A Great British institution like the Beano ;) and a great British guitarist like Clapton all in one image. The cover is now a classic and even went on to influence Eric Bell to suggest calling his band Thin Lizzy after a character in the Beano.
David went on to design the cover of Thin Lizzys debut album also a few years later. ❤️
