The Philly DAO’s External Engagement & Government Affairs Division hit the streets of Roxborough/Manayunk and the Fairhill neighborhoods of Philadelphia to bring DAO resources and share the services available to Philadelphia residents. Our victim advocates and community liaisons will be on the ground twice per week during the day and evening (Spring, Summer and Fall 2026). The DAO’s External Engagement & Government Affairs Division remains deeply committed to intentional, innovative and compassionate approaches to connecting with businesses, residents and stakeholders within communities across Philadelphia. #WeOutside #ConnectedToCommunity #GrassrootsApproaches #BootsOnTheGround
As we approach the summertime, we recognize the importance of supporting safe spaces within our community so our young people have places to thrive. On Tuesday, May 12, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner and members of the DAO’s External Engagement and Government Affairs Division announced the awarding of $500,000 in violence prevention microgrants to 46 community-based 501(c)(3) organizations. Since the DAO’s Violence Prevention Grant Initiative launched in May 2021, the program has awarded over $7.5 million in microgrant awards. The DAO awarded these local groups for the Summer Camp, Cycling, Swimming & Athletic programming they provide to communities across Philadelphia.
On May 4, 2026 US Rep. Jim Jordan, the Republican Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and another US Representative sent DA Larry Krasner a letter as the independently elected chief prosecutor for Philadelphia County. The Committee members said they wanted documents in anticipation of a public hearing.
In essence, the letter accuses the DA’s Office of increasing crime, which is completely false. We’ve had historic lows. The letter also suggests that the US House Judiciary Committee controls what local prosecutors do in relation to ICE and immigration policy. Also completely false, and the 10th Amendment says so.
We will answer the letter soon, requesting a very public hearing and requesting ICE documents as well.
Until then, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has one message for Jim Jordan: Pull Up!

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office sat down with Renee Taylor, a co-survivor of gun violence who lost her son, Dayemen Taylor, on March 4, 2024. In her words, Dayemen, or Dayme for short, was the life of the party, always wanting to make people laugh. “People gravitated to him. Even at school, the kids gravitated towards him. They loved on Dayemen.” Renee Taylor’s son died after being shot at a SEPTA bus stop in the Ogontz section of the city following his dismissal from Imhotep Charter. Four others were injured. “Dayemen’s legacy shines as bright as the biggest star. Because he was a star,” Renee shared. Dayemen leaves behind a big family, loving mother, and supportive community.
This is a part of the DAO’s “Voices of Survivors” series, where we spend time with survivors who continue to receive support from our office as they continue to heal from their experiences of loss and grief.
