Q: What makes you a work of art?
- As a Haitian woman, my ancestors defeated the most powerful army, therefore I can do whatever I set my mind to.
“My mom used to tell me, 20 fois sur le métier, polissez, repolissez votre ouvrage.”
- My name is Sophia and I am an original work of art.

In celebration of Haitian Heritage Month and inspired by the Met Gala, I created a pair of custom denim jeans that honor the richness of Haitian culture. The design features the Citadelle, a powerful symbol of our history, alongside the hibiscus 🌺, our national flower. I also incorporated the “kanson rouge,” a nod to our currency, and of course, the beloved palm trees that reflect the beauty of our beaches.

Artist Profiles: Phia
Phia is a Haitian American artist who daydreams on canvas. She says she is more comfortable describing how she feels through color, and elements of composition. She draws from her culture, memories, and things happening around her for inspiration.
We believe all TPS holders deserve lasting pathways to permanency—not endless cycles of limbo and fear. While that larger fight continues, this is an important opportunity to protect Haitian families now.
Last year, the Trump administration moved to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti—despite Haiti facing one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world right now.
Armed violence, political instability, food insecurity, and natural disasters have made daily life unsafe. In fact, the U.S. State Department advises Americans not to travel to Haiti at all.
Earlier this year, a federal judge paused the termination of TPS. On April 29, the Supreme Court will hear arguments over whether the administration lawfully moved to end TPS despite ongoing dangerous conditions in Haiti.
But advocacy still matters.
Just weeks ago, the House voted to extend protections for three more years. That happened because community members, faith leaders, and businesses spoke out.
Now the decision moves to the Senate.
TPS holders are here lawfully. They have built businesses, families, and deep roots in communities across the country.
We’re grateful for this collaborative art piece by @youvelinescreations and @phiaart_ reminding us of the beauty, resilience, and heritage our Haitian community brings.
Our friends at @cws_global make it easy to contact your senators and urge them to protect Haitian immigrants.
