When @msaylawala and @vannimangoni discussed ideas for this wall they agreed on gifting San Juan a face, something that would look at you and speak through the eyes and through a gesture. That message is now embodied in an indigenous child holding a (literal) golden bud, a child that is indigenous to the earth, like the human child that lives in all of us. The message of El Brote Dorado is one of regeneration, of actively caring for our nature. It’s about a way of living that is mindful and graceful, that takes care of every single bud as something precious, with the innocence of a child. The hands of this child are older however and rough. They are hands that have worked, with dirt and soil under the nails, representing the active effort to sustain the “golden” aspect of any seedling. The subject therefore is not only environmental but it refers to the regeneration of our own reality, of our thoughts: re-generate our way to relate to nature and to each other in order to leave a better legacy to the future generations.
