2yrs ago I ruptured my Achilles tendon and thought this was my sign to stop playing. Imposter syndrome lead to inconsistent play and created a cycle that I struggled to break free from. Being sidelined from this injury allowed me to reflect and appreciate the journey I had went on with this game. But it also made me appreciate the amount of effort it takes to start something and the care you have to have to nurture that thing and watch it develop.
At 13 I couldn’t even do a between the leg crossover. Now here I was ready to be done with it. After hours of PT I felt it would be a disservice to my younger self to stop now, there were things he still wanted to accomplish.
One of my homies a few weeks back said to me, “the only thing we got left to play for is respect”. It really resonated with me and I sat with his words. Realizing it hit because I wanted to show my respect and admiration to my younger self who started something and didn’t have a clue how many life lessons he would teach me in doing so.
So if you read this far, this is just my gentle reminder to start, the journey is unpredictable but always beautiful
