Filming a music video at night solo was quite the challenge. Going into it, knowing there weren’t any power points on set I was looking at getting extra v-mount batteries and how to manage all the incoming cost and chaos until I came across the Neewer HB80C.
I thought, “why not, I’ll give it a crack and see how it goes.”
Fast forward, this light comes with me everywhere and given how run and gun my shoots are, the output and runtime considering it’s powered by an internal battery is wild. 🔥🔥

Lighting for me, especially while being colour blind, is a bit like food. You know how things are ‘meant’ to taste or look, but you never really understand it until it’s in your mouth…or in front of your eyes.

Personal tips for next time:
- add some more decorations on the table to liven up the shot.
- Be more aware of the general lighting level to avoid Color grading headaches. i.e stop forgetting to never trust the lcd screen.

60 days since walking away from unpaid overtime, corporate blame games and too many people getting paid way more than their worth. As bad as my previous job was, I’m thankful for all the lessons it taught me in valuing my own work and making clear what I’m really after in life. For anyone feeling stuck or scared, having a backup plan is important for sure, but if you’re passionate and willing to go all in on something, then diving in the deep end and embracing the work is sometimes the ‘safer’ option.

Not every day I get called out for photography work 😂 A lot of videographers complicate the process, feeling like they lack the “right” gear for photography work. Just keep it simple, work with what you got, the fundamentals remain the same. Even a single continuous light can change the vibe of the shoot entirely. ✌🏼
