Photography art direction for Barnsley Resort. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Barnsley Resort nurtures deep connections and the amazing things that happen when we slow down.

After yesterday’s story I posted on easements, I find myself reflecting on the many lives of historic houses and how very few architectural changes are needed to make a house (or a room) one’s own. So, because everyone loves a “before + after”, above is an “after + after + before” that illustrates the concept.
Constructed in the mid-19th century, this building served many commercial functions before being converted to 2 residential units in the 1950’s. I became the tenant in 2018, and from the moment I had my keys, my friend John ( @johnpopeantiques )called first dibs on the place when I moved out.
Photographed by the same photographer 4 years apart, these photos show how painting only the walls and changing the furniture can create an entirely different space.
While this apartment does not have an interior easement, these photos demonstrate how few physical changes are needed to make one feel at home, and thus support the promotion of easements as a protective measure for historic house interiors.

A few years ago I had the great honor of photographing President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter at their home in Georgia for Parade Magazine. He was kind to me and assistant Josh Zoodsma and we had a nice conversation about him turkey hunting prior to our arrival. My setup was quick and after I shot a few frames he asked if I "ever got it on the first shot." We were in and out in under 10 minutes. Today we lost a truly decent and modest man who dedicated his life to doing good things and making a positive impact for people and the environment.
One of my favorites of Sallie Ann Robinson -- a sixth generation native of Daufuskie Island, Gullah Chef, Author, Historian, and tour guide photographed at her home on Daufuskie Island for @southernlivingmag .
Recent work in Music City, Nashville TN where I got to shoot, dine, and dash with old and new friends:
1) Josh at Xiao Bao

3) Audrey
4)The incomparable Arum Rae at Dino's
5) Cheeseburger and Sean at the sorely missed Bar Continental
6) Jane's Hideaway and Tiger Bar
Thank you to all for the times!
A huge congratulations! to Chef Nikko Cagalanan for the nod and nomination from the @beardfoundation for his brilliant work at restaurant Kultura in Charleston, SC.
