Peter Liversidge | National Library of Scotland 'The Rules of the Library' On view until 19 December 2026 'The Rules of the Library' is a new artwork by Peter Liversidge. The work presents a set of nineteen rules which have been collected and recontextualised by Liversidge from a wide range of sources, including the Library's own extensive collections. Presented as a single list, the work reframes these instructions, prompting visitors to consider how rules shape our encounters with knowledge and public space. Through this playful yet thoughtful juxtaposition, Liversidge explores the Library's balance between open access and the responsibility to preserve archives for future generations. The artwork is accompanied by reading materials and a project archive for you to explore in the Library's historic General Reading Room. This project has been made possible through the generous support of Bill Zachs, Mike Lampert, and the American Patrons of the National Library and Galleries of Scotland.  Photographs courtesy of Michael Vince Kim. #peterliversidge #nationallibraryscotland #nls #therulesofthelibrary

INGLEBY | TOKYO GENDAI 2025 Booth A06 Pictured: Peter Liversidge 'Pair of Winter Drawings 9vs12 and 12vs10', 2023 black masking tape and pencil on found book pages in two (2) parts 33.9 x 27.7 cm (each frame) 13 3/8 x 10 7/8 in Photograph: John McKenzie Peter Liversidge’s 'Winter Drawings' are an ongoing series that initially came out of a project he once described as ’things made at work when I should have been working’. The artist was employed at a framing shop, and he began to make winter drawings (only ever created during the winter months), by applying thin strips of framing tape onto a page. The 'Winter Drawings’ series use the front page and the final page of a found book. Such a privilege to see Angel Bones at the Aviva Studios in Manchester on Saturday, it was the last chance to see it in the round, on a revolving stage (🤯) Thank you to the brilliant @mariam_repeatuntildeath for my ticket. So good to meet the rest of the hugely talented cast and crew afterwards. Roll on the London shows in the Autumn - tickets via the @englishnationalopera website…

I’m very sorry to know that today is the last day for @darbyshireltd as they close their doors for good. I worked for Mark 26+ years ago, and I’ve been asking them to frame work for 25+ yrs I owe a lot to all the staff and friends who have worked there over the years. Especially for those last minute ‘emergency’ frames… For the past 12-15 yrs my DARBYSHIRE sign painting has been on the wall at White Lion Street... Adios old friend.

Peter Liversidge's new work 'The Rules of the Library' is now installed at the National Library of Scotland 📚 Created during an eight-month research residency during the National Library’s centenary year, ‘The Rules of the Library’ celebrates the enduring cultural and civic importance of libraries. The work on display is a billboard-scale reproduction of the original, typed by Liversidge on a manual typewriter. The work presents a set of nineteen rules which have been collected and recontextualised by Liversidge from a wide range of sources, including the Library's own collections. The artwork is accompanied by reading materials and a project archive in the Library's historic General Reading Room. Copies of ‘The Rules of the Library’ will also be distributed to libraries across Scotland, allowing each institution to reinterpret the work within its own setting. On view until 19 December 2026 📸 Photos: Michael Vince Kim @peterliversidge @natlibscot
