I first met Bruno Bischofberger in 1986. I admired him so much. He was brilliant, curious, generous, driven, and just a little bit eccentric. Despite his wide reputation, he was a very private man who stayed in the background as he supported the art that he loved. It was Bruno who introduced me to Andy Warhol and who published my first book of essays. Here we are at his gallery in Zurich in the early 90s, with artist Max Bill in the late 90s, and on our last visit together two years ago at the beautiful space he built for his collection with his daughter Nina and her husband Florian. Though personally quite modest, Bruno Bischofberger was a person of grand, epic proportions. We will not see his like again, and the world is poorer for it.
