Picking up our dog’s poo isn’t just something we should do in urban areas - it’s just as important when out in nature. It’s natural for us to think it’s ok to leave dog poo in the environment - after all, no one picks up after wild animals. Getting views comes at a cost. And sometimes that cost doesn’t even get you views. (Pray for Alice’s wrist.) When we created Pet Impact, making social media content was last on the list of things we wanted to do. Both of us are awkward in front of a camera, and would rather stay behind the scenes. But because of how things work today - it’s a necessity for a small business like Pet Impact. So now Alice is doing cartwheels in a field while I hold up a fake poo with eyes and a mic attached. Ocean Observers UK are independent educators on ocean health, wildlife health and inspiring change. We read the scientific research and make available the information so that members of the public can make informed decisions. We are also dog owners! For over 20 years of having four-legged family, I always trusted the science of compostable dog waste bags. But I would always see full waste bags in the bin, next to the bin and even hanging in trees, never decomposing…yuck! Then I came across @pet_impact and we have just finished our first box of these ocean blue bags. For every bag that we use, more plastic is removed from nature, in fact for every one waste bag used, it funds the recovery of five waste bags worth of plastic from the environment. Their science is verified. Our boy has tested these and believe me he’s a big lad with high demand in the toilet department! These bags have lived up to their claim of being leak proof. But, more importantly, these bags reduce ocean bound plastic. Companies rushed to offer “compostable” poo bags without first figuring out if we have the appropriate disposal systems for them (we don’t). So we made a better poo bag, ReSEAcled - non-compostable, but more sustainable and suited for where poo bags go in real life. But - we’re also working on a project to find out if composting dog waste can become a feasible disposal method in the future. Because it was never about creating the perfect poo bag - it’s about continuously striving for better solutions for our pets, people and planet.
