Happy International Sun Bear Day!
Hereâs a behind-the-scenes look into how we care for our rescued Sun Bears Jamran and Bopha with Senior Keeper Lauren.
Every day, our keepers run specialised healthcare training sessions that keep the clever bears mentally stimulated while allowing us to check their paws, teeth, bellies and overall condition with minimal stress and plenty of tasty berries!
Jamran and Bopha were rescued from the illegal wildlife trade by our incredible conservation partner Free the Bears and brought into our care back in 2007.
Both bears had a very tough start to life, so itâs an absolute privilege to provide them the home they deserve.
Our incredible animal carers have worked hard to develop strong bonds with Jamran and Bopha, while providing them with a lifestyle that closely mimics what they should have had in the wild.
Now in their midâ20s, theyâre beginning to show signs of ageing, but this gentle, rewardâbased training means we can continue to give them targeted care as they enter their twilight years đ
No one crunches better than Muku and her keepers hear it all day every day đ
So naturally, we had to test if they could pick the snack just by the sound! đĽŹ

Asta and Sunda had a gibbon good time exploring their new home for the first time!
Now living next door to Northern whiteâcheeked gibbons in the Gibbon Crossing, the mother-and-son duo have got some very curious neighbours keeping an eye on them đ
Hereâs a behind-the-scenes look at how we care for our African Lions with Keeper Sally đŚ
With specialised healthcare training sessions, we can check the big catsâ paws, bellies, overall body condition and even take blood samples with minimal stress and plenty of tasty treats!
The training is mentally stimulating and also helps build strong trust between the lions and their incredible keepers đž

After cooler nights, Komodo Dragons bask in the sun to raise their body temperature. This heat helps get their muscles moving and metabolism going, setting them up to explore and stay active đż

Spare a thought for all the Numbat mums out there who hold young like this for monthsđ
Numbats arenât your typical marsupials because they donât have a pouch! Itâs more of a skin flap than the deep pocket youâll see on other species.
When born, Numbat joeys will attach to a teat and cling on until theyâve matured and become independent.
Our giraffe habitat is set to reach new heights with a major upgrade on the way đŚ
As part of our Master Plan 2040, the State Government has announced a $20 million investment into the African Savannah expansion project.
When completed, the giraffe and zebra habitat will be three times as big as it is now! More space will enable mixed species living for our animals, with the hopes to welcome ostriches and potentially antelope.
This next chapter builds on our Zooâs longâterm vision to creating worldâclass experiences while supporting animal welfare and conservation.
Construction for the African Savannah expansion is expected to commence in 2028. Stay tuned for more updates!
Tug of war, Tasmanian Devil style đ
These carnivorous marsupials can open their jaws to an incredible 80 degrees when feeding on carcasses in the wild.
Serving a meal on a moving zip line like this encourages them to chew and tug to really test that jaw strength!
