In Volume 2’s installment of Nick’s picks, we’re exploring the realm of the Lazarus Effect. The creatures highlighted are some of the greatest comeback artists in the annals of natural history—species that managed to disappear from science’s radar for decades, centuries or even tens of millions of years. And unlike Lazarus, who only needed four days to orchestrate his return to the main stage, it seems that nobody told these overachievers that their little game of hide and seek was called off ages ago when people just stopped looking (or never bothered to look in the first place). Whoops. 🔎

#LetTheRecordShow that the legend of the Loch Ness Monster was born on this day in 1933, when a supposed sighting of the creature by a local couple hit the news. Public interest quickly grew, and at one point there was even a 20,000 pound sterling reward put up for capture of the beast. 🔎
Over the subsequent decades, several British Universities launched sonar expeditions to the lake, which revealed the presence of large, moving underwater objects. Beyond the sonar readings, no conclusive evidence of the existence of the Loch Ness Monster has ever been discovered.❔

Save My Ink Forever is a family-run business that has taken one of the most controversial ideas in funeral service—preserving tattoos from the deceased—and turned it into a form of artful remembrance. Behind this especial endeavor stands Kyle Sherwood, a third-generation mortician who has dedicated his career to both serving grieving families and honoring tattoos as living works of art that don’t deserve to disappear under the earth or in a crematorium. What began as a strange, even unsettling, idea has become something both practical and profound—a way to merge memory with art, grief with beauty and the finality of death with the persistence of love. 🖤🩸

#LetTheRecordShow that world-famous poet and playwright William Shakespeare was born on this day in 1564 and died on his fifty-second birthday in 1616. The cause of his death remains unknown, not necessarily in cause, but because death records weren’t typically kept during this time. Unless they were plague related, of course. Several causes of death have been speculated, including heavy drinking or a fever, but none have ever been confirmed. 🪶📜
The air of mystery around Shakespeare's death has only gotten stranger over the years. In 2010, researchers were given permission to use non-invasive radar to examine his presumably in-tact tomb. When a sweep was completed, it was found that the Bard’s skull was missing and the floor had been previously repaired in that area. Grave robbing rumors had been speculated since the 1800s, but due to lack of exhumation permission and technology, it took over two hundred years to prove those rumors to be true. 💀
