We heard #Watertown mentioned in Orbiter by @noahkahanmusic and had to show you our own slice of this city. Watertown is home to Perkins where we support 200 kids and young adults with disabilities on our campus, 2,000 across Massachusetts, and 2 million more around the world. Video description: Text: This is Watertown. Montage of clips of Perkins campus flash across the screen, including drone views from our tower, students and teachers working and learning together in our classrooms, kids playing volleyball, biking, on the playground, at graduation. A collection of still images move and roll together of similar scenes as an animated collage to end the video. #NoahKahan #TheGreatDivide #Orbiter

Welcome to the future of #Braille. The Perkins Braille Bloom is a new device that brings braille to life on any screen, connecting any Perkins Classic Brailler to the internet and transforming it into a modern, plug-and-play braille keyboard for computers, tablets, and mobile devices. It’s real-time communication without barriers: instant braille-to-text translation for educators teaching online and in the classroom. For families staying close to their child’s learning. For kids who want to easily and accessibly text with friends. And so much more. It’s simple. It’s innovative. It’s affordable. It’s empowering. Are you ready to Bloom? Shop now: Perkins.org/Bloom

How do athletes who are #Blind or #LowVision play baseball? #BeepBaseball is an adaptive version of America's pastime with balls that make noise, blindfolds to keep everything on a level playing field, and buzzing foam cylinders as bases.

How do schools become truly inclusive? 🌎 At Perkins, we believe inclusion happens when teachers, schools, and education systems have the tools and support to make every child part of the classroom. @UNESCO has now recognized the Perkins Model Program Approach as a global good practice for advancing inclusive education for children with disabilities. Today, nearly 2 million children across 16 countries learn with the support of Perkins-trained educators. What makes this possible is a long-term approach to teacher training, coaching, and continuous improvement that helps schools strengthen inclusive practice over time. This recognition reinforces something we see every day across our work globally: sustainable inclusion is possible when schools and systems are equipped to make it happen.

It’s our 10-year anniversary. 🎉 That’s right – a decade of building this amazing community around access, inclusion and acceptance with all of you, right here in the #BlindNewWorld, powered by @PerkinsVision To celebrate, here are five notable things we’ve shared over the years – important knowledge we’ve gained by listening to and learning from disabled voices. Thank you for sharing your stories, supporting each other and always speaking up for what you believe in. We couldn’t have done it without you. 🫶

For students who #Blind and #LowVision, accessible games means everyone can join in on the fun! This includes having pieces with different shapes, colors, and textures, braille labels, and ensuring the experience can be enjoyed both by touch and sight. 🎲

Can you italicize, bold, or underline words in #Braille? 🤔 The answer is “Yes!” but maybe not in the way you’re used to. Braille has indicator symbols used to communicate that certain words or passages are italicized, bolded, or underlined. These indicators are primarily used to show emphasis or distinction. If it appears in text simply as decoration (like showing a visual distinction between a header and paragraph), the formatting is generally ignored when translated to braille. Indicators for formatting just one word are placed directly before the word. Indicators for formatting a passage are placed directly before the first affected word and a terminator symbol directly follows the last affected word. These formatting indicators and terminators are represented by two braille cells each. Note: The examples shown are in contracted (aka “shorthand”) braille.

Before moving to a traditional #WhiteCane, a #Precane can be a wonderful first tool for children who are #Blind or #VisuallyImpaired to navigate their world. We love this moment of Drew from our Infant-Toddler Program using his precane made by Perkins' Adaptive Design Center! đź’™

We help children and young adults with disabilities develop the tools and skills they need to find their place in the world. For some, that's exploring career opportunities during their time at Perkins and beyond. Come along with Declan as he takes us on a tour of our Work Experience Open House, where Perkins students get to meet with representatives from on-campus departments and local organizations in #Watertown and beyond. They ask questions, explore different roles, and some even share a resume and cover letter that they prepare as part of their learning. Events like these give students real-world exposure to careers and professional skills, like how to present themselves to employers. We’re grateful to our local partners for supporting our students in discovering their strengths and exploring new opportunities right here in our community. 💙

“Braille allows me to offer as much accessibility as possible to everyone who wants it,” says Beth, @PerkinsLibraryOfficial 's #Braille Production Manager. Tell us in the comments, what has braille done for you?
