The Harpel House by architect John Lautner, originally designed in 1956 with restoration by Mark Haddawy. After years of unsympathetic alterations, the home was meticulously brought back to Lautner’s original vision through a careful restoration process that respected the home’s geometry, materials, and relationship to the surrounding landscape.
Known for approaching cars, furniture, and architecture with the same level of precision, Haddawy’s work reflects a deep understanding of proportion, permanence, and restraint. Every surface, transition, and detail preserved with intention rather than replaced, allowing the house to age honestly while maintaining the integrity of Lautner’s design.

Mark Haddawy is a Los Angeles–based designer and collector known for his precise restoration of mid-century modern architecture. His work focuses on historically significant homes by architects like John Lautner, Richard Neutra, and Pierre Koenig, returning them to their original intent through archival research, exact materials, and disciplined restraint.
His Harpel House in the Hollywood Hills reflects that approach, a Lautner-designed pavilion defined by concrete, glass, and indoor-outdoor continuity. The space is layered with design pieces selected for form and proportion.
That same philosophy extends to his automotive collection, from early Porsche models to a Ferrari 250 GT SWB and Jaguar D-Type, all centered on originality, provenance, and engineering clarity. A true embodiment of Period Correct in both architecture and automobile.
