🦷 New Research Alert – Can a simple visual boost help your brushing game?
A recent RCT from Ghent University investigated the effect of visual feedback on plaque control in periodontitis patients following initial periodontal therapy.
👥 Participants were randomized into three groups:
1️⃣ Manual Toothbrush (MTB)
2️⃣ Electric Toothbrush (ETB)
3️⃣ Electric Toothbrush with Visual Feedback (ETBV)
📊 Over 12 weeks, all groups demonstrated significant improvements in plaque levels and bleeding on probing (BoP). Notably, the ETBV group achieved the greatest reduction in plaque accumulation (from 63.04% to 26.25%).
🔍 While no statistically significant difference in plaque reduction was found between brushing methods, the study underscores the importance of consistent oral hygiene and highlights the potential role of behavioral tools like visual feedback in enhancing patient outcomes.
🧠 Further research is warranted to explore long-term adherence strategies in periodontal care.

New research by drs. Axelle Ickroth & prof. Jan Cosyn (@ugent ) shows that half of the teeth in need of extraction in the premaxilla can be replaced with an immediate implant! 🚀 This means that immediate implant placement has the potential to become a routine treatment concept, offering faster solutions for patients and more predictable outcomes.
