Started the day searching for yellowtail.
We found a couple good schools early, but only had one real shot at them and nobody could stick one. After that, it turned into a grind… chasing fish most of the day, moving stop to stop, waiting for the right opportunity.
At the final stop, things finally started happening.
As soon as I got a bait in the water, I started getting bit. Something bent my hook out, so I switched over to a swimbait with a stronger setup and started fan casting.
After a few barracuda bites, I casted again, let it sink all the way to the bottom, and slowly wound it back. Then I felt that bite.
From there it was chaos… running up and down the boat trying to keep pressure on this fish while it dug hard under the boat. Huge shoutout to Rusty and the crew on the San Diego for helping me stay on it and getting the gaff in clean.
Fish of a lifetime for me.
Grateful to
@warbaits for the jig head setup that held strong, grateful to
@performance_tackle for putting me onto the swimbait at the Pacific Coast Sportfishing Show, and grateful to the crew and everyone aboard the
@thesandiego for an unforgettable day on the water.
Seven White Sea Bass hit the deck that day.I’m just thankful one of them found my line.
