@jcm_3000 @sfshowcase | In 2025, Morales’s exhibition ‘My America’ coincided with his first career survey, ‘OJO’, at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis. Together, these exhibitions marked a pivotal moment in his artistic trajectory and affirmed the depth and ongoing evolution of his work. ‘My America’ presented eight new watercolors from his ‘Gemelos’ (“twins”) series, which extend his long-standing project ‘Undocumented Interventions’. Whereas earlier works depicted the hidden, often brutal spaces where people risk everything to cross into the United States, ‘Gemelos’ dissolves the physical environment, leaving only the intertwined contours of bodies. In these drawings, the suffocating confines of migration routes transform into intimate portals, revealing moments of unexpected tenderness and connection.
