Footprints of Okwui Enwezor
11 years ago I had the honor to participate in the Venice Biennale curated by Okwui Enwezor. Svante Larsson, ny close colleague and friend, helped me produce the work ”Morning Breeze” which explores women’s organising and political imaginaries in the early 20th century. Svante also took the photo of Okwui’s foot prints.
Om May 30th we show a new version of this work at the Borås Biennial curated by Taru Elfving, in collaboration with Borås Finska förening. Now the work has the title ”Women in Movement ”

Today I had the incredible honor to meet and talk to Lahja Exner- an incredible woman, textile worker and who became the first woman in Swedish parliament with a migrant background ❤️✊
Last Sunday the exhibition in Brisbane closed. It has been strange and beautiful to know that these three films—Sisters!, Workers! and Fifteen zero three nineteenth of january two thousand sixteen - have been shown so far away from the places where they were made. Most of the work behind them happened in kitchens, community centres, and in the outskirts of European cities. And suddenly they were on the other side of the world.
What stayed with me from the installation is how clearly the films speak to each other when they are placed in the same space. They carry the voices, humour, frustration, and strength of the women I’ve worked with for so many years. Seeing that energy travel—across continents—means more to me than I expected.
Thanks to UQ Art Museum for holding the work with such care, and to everyone who came. And always: gratitude to the women whose movements and everyday organising make these films possible.

Ingen vet.
Byggarna får avgöra det.
Så vi väljer att återgå till drömmarna.
Vilde tar fram materialprover.
Stefan river innertaket.
Vi drömmer om takhöjd och ett stort kök, och försöker njuta av lugnet –
tills nästa hinder dyker upp.

THE QUIET IS NOT SILENT
A workshop on
Deep Listening and storytelling
in artistic practice Led by Petra Bauer
11/11/2025, 3-6 pm
Online
/teilt/the-quiet-is-not-silent/
At the moment the workshop is fully bookedl, but you can register for the waiting list at [email protected]@peppabau@nathalie_koger

Petra & Stefan
Wonderful days in Tänndalen, Härjedalen.
Thank you my dear brother Pasi and Sara for lending their beautiful house to us. We caught our breaths and relaxed our minds.
And just enjoyed ourselves. ❤️
The Last Day – SAAR Summer School, Kiruna
On this last day, we began early — at 7 am the mining bus picked us up for a visit to the Kiruna mine, operated by LKAB. Underground, questions surfaced: about extraction, responsibility, and the deep contradictions embedded in the idea of “green mining.” For many, this term is seen not as a solution, but as a means to legitimise further exploitation of land under the guise of sustainability.
At the museum, LKAB’s version of history was clearly present — a narrative that claimed this land was once empty. But of course, it never was. These are Sámi lands, always crossed, always inhabited, always known.
Later, we gathered at Hjalmar Lundbohmsgården, the residence of the mine’s first director — a house built with great means and aesthetic ambition. In that space, we listened to each group’s reflections on the week.
A recurring thread was the need for rest, for breath, for slowness — not as withdrawal, but as a practice of thinking otherwise. Others returned to Gunvor Guttorm’s reminder: to reflect not only on how we are invited into a place, but also how, and when, we might say no.
The week has held tension, beauty, and deep learning. We have moved together — through places, through thoughts, through phases of unknowing and understanding.
And now, we pause. Grateful, not for resolution, but for having shared the journey.

Day 5 – SAAR Summer School, Kiruna
As the week unfolds, layers of complexity continue to surface — not only in what is spoken, but in what is felt, sensed, and sometimes held in silence. The North is not untouched. The traces and effects of colonialism are not behind us, but move through the present: through land, through institutions, through perception. These tensions, often subtle, shape how we meet each other and the world around us.
In the afternoon, we visited Ofelas. Kerstin welcomed us, and together with Claudia and Jenny, she guided us through the surrounding forests and lands. We picked berries, learned about wild herbs and the knowledge they carry, and baked bread together.
It was an afternoon held with care — full of knowledge generously shared, grounded in place, and rooted in lived experience.
And the landscape — wide, alive, quietly overwhelming.
We close the day carrying both tension and tenderness — the kind that comes from being in deep relation with place, with histories, and with one another.

Day 4 – SAAR Summer School, Kiruna
This morning, we visited the Samegården in Kiruna, where Gunnar welcomed us with stories of Sámi life, that stayed long after the tour was over. His words brought the past close — not as history, but as lived memory, layered in the present.
In the afternoon, we were hosted by IRF Kiruna, where two scientists shared their research on the Moon and Mercury. Not all of us could follow the technicalities, but something resonated: the deep personal curiosity that drives their work, and the tension between wonder and extraction in the race toward celestial bodies.
From there, we travelled to Jukkasjärvi. We shared a delicious souvas stew, visited the church with Bror Hjorth’s provoking altarpiece, and listened to Ida-Maria speak about the life of a reindeer herder — quiet strength woven into every word.
We returned to Malmfältens Folkhögskola where the evening unfolded in the Lavvu. We cooked together, invited guests, and as the night deepened, musicians began to play. A joik was generously offered.
It was a day of resonance, generosity, and unexpected beauty.
We are tired — and grateful.
