Ahir vam inagurar l’exposició a Tokoname, un dels dies més emotius de l’estada al Japó. La possibilitat de compartir i crear comunitat en un lloc tan especial, m’omple d’alegria. M’agradaria agrair especialment al @house_of_12_since2024 per la seva feina i hospitalitat, realment em van fer sentir com a casa. Compartir un espai amb tants de ceramistes i creadors i sentir la proximitat malgrat les diferències em fa creure en el poder de l’art. A tots els que vau venir, gràcies. Tokoname, això és el principi d’una bella amistat.

昨日、常滑で展覧会を開催しました。日本滞在中、最も感動的な日の一つとなりました。このような特別な場所で、皆さんと交流し、コミュニティを築けることに、大きな喜びを感じています。特に、@house_of_12_since2024 の皆様には、作品制作と温かいおもてなしに感謝申し上げます。まるで我が家にいるようにくつろげました。多くの陶芸家やクリエイターの方々と空間を共有し、違いを超えて親密さを感じられることで、アートの力の素晴らしさを改めて実感しました。ご来場いただいた皆様、本当にありがとうございました。常滑、これは素晴らしい友情の始まりです。

常滑の急須づくりも見てもらいたいなと思い
ご訪問させていただいたのは
急須作家の山田勇太朗さんの工房
勇太朗さんの淹れてくださるお茶を楽しみながら
急須づくりのことを教えていただきました
土作りから、藻がけのデモンストレーションまで
Pepさんも「見てよ、この薄さ！」と驚いていました
勇太朗さんの急須は本当に薄く繊細で美しいのです…
駄作を許さない勇太朗さんは
B品は世に出さないとおっしゃっていて
Pepさんの制作には繋げられないかもなぁと思っていたら
バキバキに割った破片ならいいよとおっしゃってくださり！

We visited the studio of Yutaro Yamada, a teapot artist, because I really wanted Pep to see how Tokoname teapots are made. While enjoying the tea Yutaro brewed for us, he taught us all about his craft—from preparing the clay to a demonstration of the "mogake" (seaweed) technique.
Pep was amazed, saying, "Look at how thin this is!" Yutaro's teapots are incredibly thin, delicate, and beautiful. Since he is a perfectionist who refuses to let any flawed piece leave his studio, I thought it might be difficult to find something for Pep’s project. However, he kindly said, "You can have these shattered fragments."
Watching Pep seriously examine each piece, I can't help but wonder what kind of work they will become. I’m so curious to see the result!

招き猫をモチーフにした作品ができたら
Pepさんも見る人も、楽しいだろうなぁと
常滑で「招き猫」をつくり続けている
梅月冨本人形園さんにご相談したところ
こちらの意図をご理解くださり、快くOKいただきました！
その昔、似たようなコンセプトの作品作りに
ご協力された歴史がありました
常滑の招き猫通りにある
常滑を代表する作家 鯉江良二さん作の招き猫
冨本人形園さんの、完成に至らなかった招き猫で
招き猫を再構成している作品です
常滑に来られる方はぜひ探してみてください
ちょっと特別な位置に存在しています
なかなか一般の者は立ち入ることのできない工房の中を
ご丁寧に案内くださったのは代表の冨本さん
所狭しと並ぶ招き猫の現場は圧巻です…！
職人さんたちが丁寧に手作業で完成させています
制作の過程で、どうしても破損は付きもの
そのクオリティの高さは80年続く歴史を感じます
今回のエキシビション用にたくさんの招き猫をご提供くださりました
Pepさんのニコニコ顔からご満足の様子が伝わるでしょうか
招き猫の作品も販売していいよとのことで
泣けるほど寛容な冨本さんに感謝が溢れます

Pep Boadas × Tomimoto Ningyouen
When we approached Tomimoto Ningyouen with Pep’s idea to create pieces using "imperfect" Maneki-neko (the ones that couldn't be sold), they immediately understood our vision.
There is a historical reason for this. In the past, they had collaborated with the legendary artist Ryoji Koie on a similar concept—the sculpture on Tokoname’s Maneki-neko Street made from reconstructed unfinished cats. This shared history made our collaboration feel like a natural fit.
Visiting their 80-year-old workshop was a profound experience. We are incredibly grateful to the representative, Ms. Tomimoto, for his openness and generosity in providing these cats and allowing us to offer these unique collaborative pieces for sale.

彼の作品と今回の制作について投稿していこうと思います
彼の作品は見る人にとっては難しいかもしれない
わたしの家族もはじめは見方がわからなくて関心が薄かったのは事実
日本の人は特に、理解ができないと作品から距離を取る傾向にありますよね
そういうものにこそ、わくわく！興味が湧いちゃうのが現代美術好きなのだということも、理解しています笑
ご安心ください
Pepさん、めちゃめちゃ優しい男の子です
へちゃげた茶碗や急須
積み上がったカップ
土の塊
彼の作品は人から手放されたもの から生まれます
へちゃげてしまった粘土造形も
職人がリズム良く形を作り出す中、何かの拍子に崩れてしまった
その意図しない曲線が、
土の柔らかさが特別美しい
製品としては価値がつかない欠けてしまったコペンハーゲンの器も、また美しい
彼の興味は土へも同じ
多治見で出会った、廃棄された土と釉薬を練り上げ制作したオブジェがいくつかあります
意匠研の卒制で発表した、その廃棄土のオブジェは
環境課題の観点からガイア賞を受賞しました
見るものを釘付けにする説得力が、そこにはありました
彼自身、カタルーニャの陶芸一家の8代目の生まれということもあり
土への情や時の重みに突き動かされるものがあったりするのかなと
推測したりしています
Pepさんの作品を見てると
今までの完成品を美しいとするその感覚を「目覚ませ！」ってストレートパンチされる感じがあります
そんな彼が、常滑のギャラリーでエキシビションを開く時
何か“常滑”を作品にしたい と
彼と歩いた常滑探しを
今後投稿しようと思います

Heading towards the Pep Boadas exhibition.
I’ll be sharing insights into his work and the creative process behind this upcoming show.
Honestly, his art might seem "difficult" at first. Even my family didn't know how to react in the beginning! In Japan, we often distance ourselves from what we don't "understand"—but for art lovers, that’s exactly where the excitement begins, right? :)
And don't worry, Pep himself is the kindest soul you’ll ever meet.
Finding beauty in the discarded.
Distorted tea bowls, stacked cups, and raw lumps of clay. His work is born from things others have let go.
Whether it's the unintended curves of a collapsed clay form or a chipped piece of vintage porcelain, Pep finds beauty in their natural state. His award-winning "Gaia Award" project, made from waste clay in Tajimi, perfectly captures this compelling power.
Coming from the 8th generation of a Catalan ceramics family, he seems driven by a deep affection for the earth and the weight of history.
"Wake up!"
Looking at Pep’s work feels like a straight punch to the gut—challenging our conventional sense of beauty that only values "finished" products. It’s a wake-up call to see the world differently.
For his exhibition in Tokoname, he wanted to create something that captures the spirit of this city. Stay tuned as I share our journey of exploring Tokoname together!

カタルーニャのPep Boadasさんの個展
多治見の陶磁器意匠研究所で一年のカリキュラムを終え、日本で制作した作品を発表いたします
彼は制作の途中で失敗してしまった粘土や、途中で破損が出てしまって完成しなかった陶磁器たちにスポットライトを当てます
意匠研での卒業制作をはじめ、今回は常滑にフューチャーした新作も作ってくださっています
彼が集めた急須や茶器の破片、完成に至らなかった招き猫たちなど…どのように生まれ変わったのでしょうか
常滑に関わるものとして、とても興味深い試みです
わたしからお声がけして制作にご協力頂きました、梅月冨本人形園の冨本さま、急須いそべの山田雅子さま、急須作家の山田勇太朗さまには、この場をお借りして御礼申し上げます
また、やきもの散歩道で作品のカケラや、失敗品を気前よく持っていっていいよ！とご協力くださった平野祐一さまをはじめとした、散歩道の作家の皆さま、本当にありがとうございました

We are excited to host Catalan artist Pep Boadas, who recently completed his studies at Ishoken in Tajimi.
Pep finds beauty in the "imperfect"—clay that failed to take shape or pieces broken during the process. By breathing new life into these fragments, he transforms them into unique works of art.
This exhibition features his graduation project and new works inspired by Tokoname, incorporating teapot parts and unfinished "Maneki-neko" (beckoning cats).
