The hotline wasn’t just for vibes—it was my excuse to make data sexy while walking you through every feature of our smart toy.

My mom gave me this vintage Harlem Globetrotters jersey for Christmas 🏀— it had been sitting in her closet for 20 years. So when I thought about what I wanted to wear for my bday party, I threw this on and couldn’t believe that the number on the jersey was 36! It felt serendipitous that I wear it for my 36th year. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’ll take it as a quiet sign that this year will be one of alignment and purpose. Grateful for coincidences and looking forward to what 36 brings! ! 🥂

shortly after my dad immigrated to the US from Russia via Sénégal, married my mom (fun fact they met at a NYE party- and each of them ditched their respective dates to speak to one another), had kids — they joined the James P. Beckwourth Club in Denver, CO.
Beckwourth was born a slave and the only african american in western U.S. to record his life story.
it was a Black outdoors group that organized hikes, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, rock climbing, repelling, and more. It’s likely the source of my tenacity, spontaneity and improvisation.
i laugh thinking about my Senegalese father recreationally sleeping outside 🤣 IYKYK. Africans come to America to get a house and stay INSIDE lol.
this recent trip to the national sand dunes was maybe our best yet: sand boarding, waterfalls, horseback riding, sand storms, laughs, a few arguments (as always when setting up a tent), unrelenting mosquitos…. and im ever grateful that my parents chose the outdoors as our family tradition to connect while disconnecting, to challenge stereotypes about Black people choosing unconventional adventure, and relishing in the beauty and landscape that our country has to offer. Sometimes what you’re looking for is right at home.
and though it marks the 10th year of my dad’s passing, I saw him in every ember of each campfire. It was special.
mama said she’s ditching the tent for a hotel next year so who is gonna get dirty with me?
