#4 Take the Pen Struggling a little to get pen to paper and getting comfortable with this healthy habit? No worries. We get you. Here are a few easy tips to take into the weekend: 1. Don’t over think it. Once upon a time you couldn’t ride a bike, or swim, or jump rope — but now you can do all these things without much thought. Same with journaling….you just have to keep at it. Eventually it’ll feel like riding a bike. 2. Set aside seven minutes. Why seven? Because it’s not ten. We’re busy humans. And it only take seven minutes to recalibrate the nervous system. 4. Take the pen. There’s not a hotel on this planet I haven’t swiped a good pen. This haul came from the @hyattregencyatl during the @miseconference . Sorry, not sorry. 5. Take it with you. Journals don’t have to be fancy. Ours are ten bucks and made to travel with you - so you’re always ready when the creative moment strikes.

Not the kind that furthers your career or provides a helping hand - but will change the course of your personal journey. I have. More than once. It takes a little courage to lean into it when it happens - but when you allow it, it’s magic. Yesterday I had the honor to speak at the @womenof_fandb as part of the @miseconference and shared the ideas of “People-loutions”. The idea that you pick ten people a year to purposefully chose to be in your life with one intention: to raise your personal vibration. Today take to the blank page and scribble down the people outside your immediate bubble that inspire, support, direct or lift you up. From popcorn (seriously popcorn may be a peg above my boyfriend), to deep serious relationships. Dig deep - and scribble as long of a list as possible. Do you cherish the feel of grass under your feet, the bounce of a new hair cut, the way a strangers smile feels — let loose and appreciate all the things you truly love. ❤️

Over a spicy as hell papaya salad - I announced ‘the last quarter of this year is going to be my most profitable ever.” It may have been that my mouth was on fire and thus my brain wasn’t working — but was the words tumbled out of my mouth, I actually believed them. And then I said it again, this time with some tactical plans of how to get there — and said it one more time. Take to your page today and scribble down one solid, high climbing goal to achieve for yourself. Say it again the second time with action! “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” // Elenor Roosevelt ~ I’m a hard sleeper and rarely give into recalling my dreams. I have no doubt that they occur, they’re just typically not that vivid. However as of late, I find my dreams having some sense of residual when I wake up daily. I can’t quite remember the dream itself - but the way I felt when I woke up is more present than before. So I grabbed my journal and started putting pen to paper and seeing what I can capture first thing in the AM. Maybe my heart and head are trying to tell me something new. 🙏🏻 ~ WRITING PROMPT: Write for seven minutes about the last dream you can recall. See how much detail you can capture and how that dream made you feel.

My friend Sarah has a little saying pinned to her bathroom mirror that says “Everything will work out in the end. If it hasn’t worked itself @ out — it’s not the end”. Or some version of that. Bathroom wisdom at its finest❤️. With the Summer Solstice tomorrow and our longest days ahead —- jot down five things that you know or not at their end. “Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it.” – Maya Angelou For a while there - I assumed that I must be manifesting wrong. I make the lists. I write as if those things have already happened, how they would feel if they happened and even what my life would taste and smell, or look like if any of the lengthy list came to be. And nada. Not one f*cking thing from that list has manifested itself. Or maybe it has. Just not as I imagined. Gifts from the universe might not show up outside of you. Perhaps they show up in the way you make someone else laugh, or how your smile changed their day. Or maybe that meeting you missed because of traffic set you on a course you’re not yet asking for. Hit the blank page and cross off all the things your manifesting and replace each one with the wonderful things you already have.

“People become what they expect themselves to become.” Mahatma Gandhi As young children we’re often asked what do we want to be when we grow up. Imagine if we asked ourselves “who” do you want to be when you grow up? Currently, I’m house hunting and in our state it’s practice to write a letter to the owner - hoping they like you enough to sell you their home. It’s super weird - but as I sat down to write my plea - who I am was far harder to get to paper than what I am. On the surface friend, sister, aunt, spouse came easily — but who am I really was a bit more insightful when I really started pencil pushing. Today take to the blank page and scribble a list of all the beautiful, unique, kind and generous characteristics of who you are. Enjoy taking note of how truly divine you are.

Mood. I believe in healers. As a human that approaches empathy that’s like a fish net just seeking everyone’s pain and joy, I cannot do the hard days without help. And while I have a very full box of coping skills (journaling, breathing, yoga, walking, therapists on speed dial) I still find myself in darker days. If this image of Anthony Bourdain was a t-shirt I’d have it in full rotation at the moment. Life is really effing hard - and equally brilliant and rewarding. In honor of mental health awareness month - I ask you to embrace the days that feel off, cry hard and without judgement, lay in bed one extra hour if you need it. But then reach out for the help you need. Life isn’t best played as a solo sport.
